Hi there,
I am trying to find the perfect Italian word for tinkerer.
In Bologna, where I am from, we would probably say "ciappinatore" but I am aware of the fact that not everyone in Italy would know what that means.
I have looked at different options like armeggiatore, armeggione or trafficone but they all have negative connotations (they're all people who do things almost with a hidden agenda, while tinkerers do it for pleasure/personal satisfaction).
As far as I know, the word tinkerer is quite a positive one.
A tinkerer is someone who likes DIY and gets things done using a trial and error method, which might not be the best but gets things done. There is also an interest in knowing how things work so they can be modified and perfected/more efficient.
Can you help me find the mystery word? I am sure it's out there but I don't seem to be able to find it.
Thank you so much.
Stefania

aggiustatutto
I know it's not the exact translation, but I've thought of this as the closest. The alternative is bricoleur or hobbista, depending on style/context

In ogni caso esclude qualsiasi connotazione negativa.

tuttofare
