I am translating a diploma from Yale University (Doctor of Law), and it says that he is "secundi honoris academici candidatum."
There are several Google hits for "secundi honoris" that appear to be simply in English, as if it is an English term already. Should I translate it? What is the meaning of the phrase? Does it imply this is an honorary degree, as opposed to an actual degree?

Comment: "Thank you Joseph. I tend to agree with the commenter that it's not so much a secondary (i.e. second-class) honor as an honor with distinction (instead of with highest distinction, summa cum laude). That is what it seems like to me. Good to hear from you and hope you are keeping well."
