Однако имеются очаги загрязнения почв с очень высоким содержанием этого металла.

Вариант из МТ pollution focus как существительное (не разделенное двоеточием) не очень гуглится. А во множественном числе еще хуже.

My suggestion. Soil contamination is an alternative for soil pollution, and seems to sound better with "pockets".

Спасибо! Я подумывал об этом варианте, но решил, что будет путаница между источник-очаг. После Вашего ответа посмотрел эти слова в русском словаре, а они, оказывается, в этом значении синонимы, практически полные.
