Italian term

azzurri viaggi

Italian to English Other Ships, Sailing, Maritime Website on naval antiques
Esse (navi e velieri), dopo aver solcato mari e oceani, toccato coste e porti di tutto il mondo, venivano qui a terminare i loro ***azzurri viaggi***...

The text here is meant to sound poetic. Solutions such as blue trips, sapphire trips/journeys... sound to me either pretentious or typical of tourist agency brochures, or even a bit psychedelic. But I might be wrong. Any ideas?

Thanks, Alberto. The points aren't as important as your finding a term that works well with the text you're working on. Glad to be of help.

Hi Cedric, I actually meant to give you the points but something apparently went wrong. I submitted the problem to the support team.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thank you all for your effort! I agree with Ivana and Cynthia, and Cedric's seems to be a good compromise, given the fact that the client is too enthusiastic about his azzurri to disappoint him!"

An idea that conveys solemnity but also peacefulness!

Grazie Angio. :)
disagree Ivana UK : the problem is that 'in the blue' just doesn't sound English in this context // plus it doesn't work in the above sentence.

The same is in Italian , actually, "voyages can't be blue at all!!" but if it has to be a poetic expression, why should it sound strange in English? :)
agree Mirra_ : just add 'to' 2 'in' and it sounds nicer and *completely and absolutely* English ;D http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=off&num=30&q="voyage... R:21.300 Ghits... ;D

Grazie Mirra, yes you are right "into the blue", my mistake. :)

Sì, "into.... Grazie Claudio.:)
neutral Sylvia Gilbertson : sounds like a trip into the sky to me - does not ring true at all to my ear

Ithought it might apply to the sea as well, not only to the sky. :)

seafaring (across blue waters)

I think "seafaring" could be enough by itself because "viaggi azzurri" means "journeys by sea" but if you really want to keep the word "blue" in the translation you can add the part in brackets.

voyages over (the) deep blue waters

voyages into the wild blue yonder

This is a phrase one used to hear with some measure of frequency, and its vice may be that it refers more to the sky than the sea, but at a stretch it could be used here as well.
