German term

heizt das Gerät mit 18 kW

Non-PRO German to English Tech/Engineering Environment & Ecology pumps, air conditioners
I have a small problem:

We, two translators, contradict each other about the interpretation of the following sentence:

Should I understand this as '', das Gerät heizt mit 18 kW'' or ''das Gerät heizt mit 18 kW'?

Thank you in advance,

Jul 30, 2009 14:07: Sabine Akabayov, PhD changed "Level" from "PRO" to "Non-PRO"

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (3): DC Josephs, Cetacea, Sabine Akabayov, PhD

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Yes Alex. at 18 kW Thank you for correction. 100 % " at 18 kW"
Alex Wilding Jul 31, 2009:
Bernd is right But perhaps "the device operates at 18 kW" would be a tad more idomatic, even though the heating loses one mention.
Binnur Tuncel van Pomeren (asker) Jul 30, 2009:
I had thought so! Vielen Dank, Bernd!!!! Genau so habe ich mir das gedacht!
Schönen Tag noch weiter!
Bernd Runge Jul 30, 2009:
Ok. In the case of a wrongly connected or missing/not plugged-in coding plug/coder connector the device will heat with 18 kW (power) (elektrische Leistung), or sth similar.
Binnur Tuncel van Pomeren (asker) Jul 30, 2009:
here is the sentence:) Bei den Varianten DEL18/21/24 SL (i) ist die Heizleistung wählbar.
Bernd Runge Jul 30, 2009:
Well, 1) We would need the whole sentence.
2) Where, exactly, is the difference between your options?
