Discussion

Tony M Jul 19, 2009:
Absolutely, Martin! That's just the point I've been trying to get across: 'common' here does not mean common/widespread (as people seem to be suggesting with 'courant' and 'familier'), but rather 'unified/shared'
Martin Cassell Jul 19, 2009:
look & feel this is a standard collocation meaning "visual and ergonomic character" of a user interface, i.e. how it looks and how it "feels" to use (conventions for highlighting, selecting, clicking etc.). <br>adding 'common navigation' means that the sites/programs in question follow a similar navigational structure and have similar navigation menus.

[sorry to those expert egg-sucking grandmas who may be reading :-) ]
Martin Cassell Jul 19, 2009:
Common = commun(e), partagé(e) Tony, in an IT context this common (= widespread !) phrase is always understood to mean 'a single/shared/unified visual and ergonomic approach'.
samy_trad (asker) Jul 19, 2009:
Rebonjour, j'ai également la phrase suivante "software products are designed with a common look, feel, and navigation to help speed pplication development and training time" Ici on a en plus l'idée de navigation.
Tony M Jul 19, 2009:
common? Does it mean 'common to several different pieces of software', for example? 'Common' is ambiguous unless you give us the rest of the context to work with.

interface homogène

Il ne s'agit pas simplement d'être conviviale pour l'interface (c'est le minimum syndical), mais de respecter un "charte" permettant à l'utilisateur de page en page, de site en site, de retrouver les mêmes repères. C'est de l'homogénéité, du respect de la charte graphique, que se dessine la convivialité. Pas l'inverse. Il y a eu par exemple un vrai débat chez la Pomme entre les utilisateurs paumés entre iTruc et iMachin. If you see what I mine de crayon :)))

agree Tony M : That's certainly the way I'd undersatnd it — 'common' in the sense of being the same across several applications, or across a company's entire range of products, for example. / Cheers, you too!

Merci Tony, pour le moment nous sommes donc deux sur la même logique. Bonne soirée.

Merci Chantal.
agree Martin Cassell : 'look & feel' could be expanded to e.g. 'présentation et ergonomie', but «interface» combines the two aspects quite well.

conviviale et familière

J'ajouterais l'idée de «familière», car il est fait ici référence aux aspects usuels des interfaces les plus courantes et auxquelles la plupart des utilisateurs sont habitués (par exemple, le système Windows).
Peer comment(s):

neutral Tony M : 'user-friendly' might well be the result, but I don't think it quite expresses the idea they're trying to convey here; and I don't think that is the intended meaning of 'common' here.

neutral kashew : familière could be the essence of it.

neutral Tony M : Yes — but I'm afraid that's the wrong meaning of 'common' here

I had my doubts about my suggestion a while after I made it so I agree with the "Disagrees". Adrien's suggestion in that context makes a lot of sense.

présentation [et exploitation] normalisée[s]/uniformisée[s]

C'est-à-dire que les couleurs, la disposition, les termes, les fonctions sont semblables pour tous les sites, les logiciels, etc. L'utilisateur n'est donc pas dépaysé.
