look for key info/ clues/glean
it's a follow up to or in support of "(graph) an information chart". Once you complete the chart, you take notes and read for key info. Highlighting the key points is not necessarily visual either. It's rather looking for meaningful info.

I am familiar with learning styles and one thing which is pointed out repeatedly is that there is no such clear cut distinction in real life. While we tend to be visual, auditory or kinetic, we still end up combining them.
