Spanish term

El derecho retraido hacia la linea media por cicatricez de RTUV previa.

Spanish to English Medical Medical (general) Urology
Description of a further bladder TUR with minor complications. (Blimey, I sound like a doctor!).
I don't understand a) what the "derecho" refers to, since it mostly talks about the bladder and the urethra, and b) I don't understand what's being done with it.
Is there a doctor in the cyberhouse?
(The prostate has been resectioned, and a papillary tumour has been found on the bladder, incidentally...)

Discussion

Roxanna Delgado Jul 31, 2008:
The ejaculatory ducts, like rdom mentions, are in fact 2 and since they pass through the prostate they might be affected in the case of a resection.
Roxanna Delgado Jul 31, 2008:
Regarding PLD, since the tumor is inside the bladder and is giving its location, I'm thinking it'd be "pared lateral derecha".
Roxanna Delgado Jul 31, 2008:
Frank, I don't think OOUU means "orificios urinarios" since there is only one, which is the "meato urinario". Unfortunately I can't think what it can be right now.
Raquel Dominguez Jul 30, 2008:
Frank, OOUU must mean urinary orifices, like Roxanna says; it could be that the prostate was resected, but not the ejaculatory ducts. PLD could be "próstata lateral derecha". You really need an urologist here...
Frank Foley (asker) Jul 30, 2008:

Hi Roxanna, that's correct. I assumed OOUU was "urinary orifices", which doesn't give us an obvious left and right, as far as I know. :-)
Rdom, I think you might be onto something, as this is the only "right" that really makes sense. It seems that they got the patient in for a bladder resection, and ending up resectioning the prostate.
Por falta de algo mejor, I think I'll probably go with Carlos' translation, tho' I wish I knew what it meant. :-(
Roxanna Delgado Jul 30, 2008:
Hi Frank. So the paragraph goes: OOUU libres. El derecho retraído hacia la ... If that is the case, then they are obviously referring to the "right OU". Can you please confirm?
Raquel Dominguez Jul 30, 2008:
Perhaps it means the right prostatic lobe. Another structure of the male gender in Spanish would be the ejaculatory duct. Hope it helps.

the right being retracted to the middle line by previous RTUV scars

Could be refering to a bilateral element, but in this case we need more context.
Note from asker:
The preceding text says "prostata resecada. Vejiga: TM papilar que ocupa un campo endoscopico localizado en PLD. OOUU libres."

agree beatriz707 (X) : but it is TURP (Transurethral resection of the prostate)... I'm still trying to find what is that 'right' thing...// You are right Roxanna, I was reading the note from Frank 'próstata resecada', thank you!

neutral Roxanna Delgado : Most likely they are talking about a bilateral structure but you can't leave "RTUV" as is in Spanish since it does not match in English: transurethral bladder resection./Not "TURP" either, it's the bladder in this case, not the prostate.
