French term

Biens remis en dotation

French to English Bus/Financial Accounting Balance Sheet
This is an item on the balance sheet of a French public body, under liabilities. I think I understand the meaning but I'm struggling to find the right way to express it.

Thank you for your help : )

These are not liabilities! This item may be under 'Passifs', but that is not equivalent to Liabilities in English.

Hi BusterK,
That's how I had understood it as well. It is the first item listed under the heading 'Capital', and the next item down is 'Dons et Legs'.
Thank you,
Lauren

What is it exactly ? My understanding is that it is the equivalent of share copital for private companies, i.e. the counterpart of assets that were contributed by the State... I would then say something like: State contribution of assets

disagree Kim Metzger : This question requires expertise in current French and English accounting standards and terminology. http://www.accurapid.com/journal/13finan.htm

expertise which, unlike me with a Bacc. from the French CH and a life of accounting exposure, of course you have since your French goes as far as oui et non, and accounting probably de un à dix.

amortization expense

...unlesss it's bad debt expense, depends on which bit of the BS it appears
Peer comment(s):

disagree BusterK : dotation here means given / contributed, not increase in depreciation// I am an accountant and perfectly know what you may or may not find on a BS. Just give a look at the asker comment...
