Hard to phrase in the positive way required in a CV - not resting on your laurels, acquiring new skills...I think it's the kind of thing in French that can mean lots of things, it's a cover-all term.
This source (compare the French version with the English) has "re-examination", which isn't bad:

What goes before and after this term in the CV? Surely it's not a "stand-alone" term?

Depending on context, a snappy term might be "career development", "personal development", or "professional development".

Professional accountability
Without much more context, this popped into my head ... no guarantees for perfection, but it might fit your context! Good luck!

career change
guessing ! but it could be something like change of direction, switch ?

professional challenge
could it possibly be a subheading, eg, "the challenges posed by this job", ie, what he had to overcome and the resulting skills acquired in order to become the superb professional he is today... (Ok, Carol, let's not get too carried away!)

reached teh career crossroads
Sounds to me like the upshot of your client insisting on keeping this in the CV is that he wants to communicate the fact that, though a 'stayer', he's not happy/fullfilled in his line of work, in which case 'remise en question professionnelle' would be something along teh lines of "reached a career crossroads". Would that do it? Answers on a postcard, please.

: I would more likely say "at a career crossroads" but it that could depend on where it is in the resume and it might be more of a lead-in to another statement.// :-) // & agree with Vera :-)

: No one has posted an agree yet so I guess I'll be first. If I was going to slap this on my resume (hopefully never), I'd choose this one :-)

Discussion
To be honest I felt like removing it since it does not add any value to this person's impressive achievements.
