The Season of Lent cries for serious reflection on the sacrament of penance. Last week this column addressed two of the key elements that make up the sacrament of penance: contrition and confession. This week I urge you to reflect on an additional Gospel account that is most instructive when it comes to the sacrament of penance.

Note from asker:
Gracias por la sugerencia! Pero más que nada necesito algo más fuerte que 'hacer penitencia', lo que sería 'cumplir con la penitencia', alguna idea? |

: but in this case it is "do the penance" because it is a specific act of compensation, not just the general attitude.

11 hrs
to make penance
As an option. There are multiple examples on google.
16 hrs
to comply whith his penance/penitence
To comply implies the fullfiling of rules or laws which as far as I can grasp goes better with the intention of the phrasing.
Best wishes!

21 hrs
do your penance
I am assuming that the person is being addresed. Not just "do penance" but do the specific penance imposed.
Could also be complete your or the penance.
I also think the previous one is "priest confesor."
This usage is from pre-Vatican II times, which I'm old enough to remember.
