Since the "Mathab" is "Shafi'i", then the differences is in the Legal/jurisprudential reference. If a shafi'i person got married according to another "MATH-HAB" e.g. "MALIKI", her/his marraige is still accepted in his mathab and he didn't go out of barn. and she/he is still one of the "shafi'i" people.
as if the difference lies in a differences in the beleifs, then the it could be translated into something else like "sect" or denomination. That's just my opinion...:)

: This is the term preferrred in Lebanon and Europe. In the US, "denomination" is more commonly used. It makes no difference that the context only refers to jurisprudential schools. The translation still holds.

: most likely. also suitable for a certificate. although, for an istitute such as alAzhar, i wonder if they would prefer heavier words, since the exact religious status is important..

Religious Faith or Confessional Denomination
Greetings... taHaiya Tayyiba wa b3ad...
That term مذهب equates to "religious faith" or "confessional denomination" = the particular religious belief claimed (or "confessed" in liturgical context) by the person cited in that document.
FWIW, religious sectarianism = taa'ifiya = الطائفية
HTH. Khair, in sha' Allah.
