German term
Maschinenbautechniker
German to English
Tech/Engineering
IT (Information Technology)
Professional Title
"Maschinenbautechniker, seit mehr als 12 Jahren in der Softwareentwicklung tätig.
Programmierung : MS-.NET, MS- VisualBasic, MS- Access, SQL- Server, C++, MS- Office
Projekte in den Bereichen : Produktionsplanung, Katasterdaten, Vermarktung von landwirtschaftlichen Produkten, Warenwirtschaft, Fitness- und Saunabereich, Spezialsoftware für die Papierindustrie u.v.m"
From a text about sauna software. This is from a profile of one of the sauna software company's CEOs.
"Maschinenbautechniker" is one of those absolutely maddening terms that doesn't seem to have a precise English equivalent. I have researched the previous two KudoZ questions on this word, but frankly ended up even more bewildered. There seems to be no definite agreement on what the best translation is.
Any ideas on what a reasonably close equivalent would be in a software context? TIA for your help.

mechanical engineering technician
I would go for this term as opposed to mechanical engineer to differentiate between the different academic qualifications required for these jobs.

Comment: "This is perhaps a little hard on David, who DID suggest "mechanical engineering technician" first, but this answer left me just a little bit more convinced about it. So thanks Lynne, commiserations David and thanks to everyone who contributed an idea or peer grade. Appreciate everyone's help."

: or perhaps "see my note at 5 and 6 minutes"? reminds me of the "Ingingeur" my husband's pupils are so fond of.

Mechanical Engineer
The occupation Maschinenbautechniker is not translated word for word, for example Diplom Ingenieur is in England Mechanical Engineer, what I am looking for is the Direct counterpart to Maschinenbautechniker.
