French term

académie du bien vivre

French to English Social Sciences Management Corporate Social Responsibility
This is from a French academic paper that analyses interviews with small business owners in France regarding their approach to corporate social responsibility.

One of the owners talks about wanting to engage her employees and perhaps even clients in creating: "une académie du bien vivre où il s’agira de voir comment changer un certain nombre d’habitudes personnelles ou collectives pour mieux manger, moins polluer, mieux construire etc."

It's just one quote out of many from various business owners, so the rest of the text doesn't help much, but it's all related to these owners' ideas about and approaches to CSR in the broadest sense.

Le 'bien-vivre' is always a pain to translate, so I usually work around it in some way. But not sure how to work around the notion of 'academy', especially since there is no other information about it. I'd be tempted to use an ecological/green term given the few examples offered, but that may be too specific since the paper covers CSR more generally.

I could put something like "living well academy" or "academy of good living", but those don't sound that great to met. Any more creative ideas out there?

UK english ok.

Thanks!

Discussion

writeaway Mar 8, 2017:
I disagree Bien vivre is an everyday term but not an académie du bien vivre. I think it's best to show the original French as well.
AllegroTrans Mar 8, 2017:
Not a case to keep the French it's not one of those "terms" which are untranslatable; it's not the name of an actual existing institution and is easily translatable
writeaway Mar 8, 2017:
I suggest keeping the original French in any case and adding the English in [ ] as some sort of explanation, preferably simple. No need to blow it out of proportion imo.

(integrative) wellness (lifestyle) academy

.......
Example sentence:

Integrative Wellness & Life Coach

Note from asker:
Thanks for the suggestion, I ended up building on your idea and putting "sustainable lifestyle academy".
Peer comment(s):

neutral writeaway : where does integrative enter into the term actually asked?/but it's not in the original term. I don't agree with over-translation/embellishment. I do agree more with lifestyle than wellness. Wellness goes of into other directions

combining all these :changer un certain nombre d’habitudes personnelles ou collectives pour mieux manger, moins polluer, mieux construire etc
agree Nikki Scott-Despaigne : wellness academy

Thank you Nikki !!
agree AllegroTrans : lifestyle academy

Thank you AjjegroTrans ! Yes : Wellness lifestyle academy !!
agree Yvonne Gallagher : "lifestyle academy" pure and simple

Thank you Gallagy !
agree philgoddard : Wellness doesn't work in my opinion, because it's also about your impact on other people ("moins polluer"). But lifestyle is good.

an academy to promote healthier lifestyle(s) / of health challenges

Healthy Lives, Healthy People: Our strategy for public health in England

The dilemma for government is this: it is simply not possible to promote healthier lifestyles through Whitehall diktat and nannying about the way people should live. Recent years have proved that onesize-fits-all solutions are no good when public health challenges vary from one neighbourhood to the next. But we cannot sit back while, in spite of all this, so many people are suffering such severe lifestyle-driven ill health and such acute health inequalities.

sustainable development academy

The term is quite popular on Google, there's even a real 'academy' who does that. :D
Peer comment(s):

neutral writeaway : the term may be popular on Google but with 100% confidence, it should also tie in with the term being asked

disagree Daryo : "The term is quite popular on Google" ? So what??? In which way does it make suitable for this particular ST? That sounds like the methods of the not-so-good probabilistic Machine Translation ... advocated by protein-based "translation devices"?
