English term

ableism

GBK English to Spanish Social Sciences Social Science, Sociology, Ethics, etc.
Definition from Merriam-Webster:
Discrimination or prejudice against individuals with disabilities.
Example sentences:
Last week a more graphic form of racism, and ableism, took place at the debating society. As has emerged from eyewitness reports and shaky camera footage, postgraduate student Ebenezer Azamati, a visually impaired black student, was dragged out of the chamber by his ankles. (HuffingtonPost)
I’m using the language of ‘disabled people’ here in line with a social model of disability which recognises that people with impairments are disabled by society through the effects of ableist attitudes and systems rather than the functioning of people’s minds, bodies and senses. (Open Democracy)
Ableist social habits can be as profound a barrier in the workplace as stairs and narrow doorways. Paying attention to these habits can be the difference between mere nondiscrimination and actually giving disabled people both the physical and emotional space to excel and bring maximum value to the organizations they work for. (Forbes)

"Capacitismo" seems to be a valid alternative, as used in "el capacitismo, la creencia de que algunas capacidades son intrínsecamente más valiosas". (https://www.pagina12.com.ar/diario/suplementos/soy/subnotas/... Greetings, g

Amadeo Pinto Feb 3, 2020:
But why though? Doesn't it take the same amount of time to ask than it would for the GBK team to just look it up.

Honestly, I hate the 3 step part of the process. I provided a link, if they like it they can use it.
Marcelo González Feb 3, 2020:
@Amadeo 'Capacitismo' (and 'capacitista' for its adjective) appears to be a very good option. Why not post it as a suggestion? It's all about expanding the site's (already very useful) glossary, after all. Cheers
Claudia Banos Feb 3, 2020:
ableism noun: Refers to person, place, thing, quality, etc.
Amadeo Pinto Feb 3, 2020:
Check here first Why doesn't the GBK team check the original term in wiki and then check to see if there is a spanish entry?
