DESCRIPTION
INVENTION OBJECT
The present brief refers to, as expressed in the title, to a water desalination device that utilizes to achieve the process uniquely solar energy obtained by means of strategically placed solar captors.
Given that the only energy utilised in the desalination process is deriving from the sun, the productive efficiency of the device is total, and involves a significant cost reduction with respect to traditional systems, thus avoiding any type of emission that may have a negative impact on the environment.
More specifically, this device is configured on the basis of a flat solar collector similar to those employed generate sanitary hot water, which have been modified to allow them to be used for the referred to salt water desalination.
The invention also proposes to be employed as an intermediate treatment in the purification process of liquid substances such as those deriving from industrial or agricultural processes, stock-breeding residues, etc.
The invention, such as this brief describes, refers to a fire-resistant box for fire-break door-locks, providing the function of several innovative and advantageous characteristics, in addition to others relating to its organization and constitution, which are described in detail below and that imply a significant improvement compared to what is known to be available in the market for the same purpose.
INVENTION APPLICATIONS
The water desalination device recommended is to be utilised in the field of water treatment to achieve drinkability and desalination, as well as generally in any technical field in which treatment of water or any other residual liquid deriving from industrial, agricultural or stock-breeding activity is needed.
The possibility of application for water flow supplies is obviously also possible for water deriving from wells or other salt-water source.
DEVICE BACKGROUND
In reality there are numerous methods in existence for the treatment of salt water deriving from the sea or wells, having the purpose of obtaining desalinized water, be it drinkable or non-drinkable. Among the most common for this type of use are the equipments employing inverted osmosis, the equipments of micro- and nano-filtration, electro-dialysis equipments, etc. All of these equipments are aimed at obtaining a water product that has a low salt ions concentration.
Nonetheless, the traditional water treatment methods involve a certain energetic consumption due to the use of hydraulic pumps, pressure groups, heat exchange (mechanism) etc, or require the periodic renovation of certain installation parts, especially those employing intermediate filters or that require mechanical elements to function. Consequently derivative costs are generated for the use and the maintenance of the installation that impact its efficiency and increase the final price of the water produced.
A solution proposed for these problems consists in taking advantage of solar energy to obtain the energy necessary to put in place a desalination process that is free of cost. The creator of this invention knows of the existence of several documents on the desalination or distillation of liquids by means of solar energy, utilising devices that capture solar radiation and transmit it to a liquid which evaporates, thus obtaining a gas fraction that separates itself from the solid fraction existing in the water, which then condenses the gas to obtain a distilled liquid. Examples of these are the Yso Chen Tsai U0220372 Application (Device to distil water by means of solar energy), the Gabor Göde ES2096652 Application (Seawater desalination plant utilizing solar energy, preferably combined with the generation of electric energy). In these documents, as in most identified, several different devices aimed at obtaining distilled water by means of solar energy are presented.
Nonetheless, and as any expert on the subject could determine, this invention presents a new configuration, compared to the existing devices, with regards to its technical aspects which give the device significant advantages, as well as a reduction of building and maintenance costs. The simplicity of the device, as well as the easy accessibility on the market of the materials necessary to build it, imply that this invention is a significant technical contribution to the field, providing a significant improvement in the area of water purification and/or desalination treatment.
INVENTION DESCRIPTION
The invention described in this brief is configured with one or more flat solar captors which in turn are equipped with a water tank upon which is a surface capturing solar energy so that the heat obtained by this surface is transmitted, except for the usual dispersions in this type of device, to the stored water.
On top of the deposit and captor surface unit are disposed, adequately distanced, a series of layers of temperate glass arranged with the objective of maximising making the most use of solar radiation and preserving the heat accumulated in the water tank.
The tank, captor surface and glass unit is mounted in such a way that it creates a solar energy capturing module. Said module will have an access entry for the salt water to be desalinised in which this is introduced and which is connected directly to the water tank. The salt water will reach the water tank by simple force of gravity due to the fact that the access entry is placed above it. The water entry may have several openings to allow the automatic entry of the water deriving from different installations of the various pumps, as well as having entries for the manual removal of the water.
Therefore, as the water at room temperature enters the interior of the tank, where temperature of 120° C can be reached by means of a small amount of solar energy, this will reach boiling point, separating itself from the gas vapour fraction of water, which will rise up to a collection opening and the solid fraction will detach itself by force of gravity falling into a salt collection tank situated in the lower part of the device, where they will be stored for the subsequent collection which will have to be performed at regular intervals.
As indicated in the previous paragraph, the boiling water will be evacuated through an opening situated in the upper part of the device and which will convey the water vapour to the condensation tank which in turn has its temperature regulated by means of natural ventilation or refrigerating liquids. The condensed water, free of solid particles, will then be transferred to a desalinised water tank where it will remain ready to be used directly or to be transferred to the consumption points that may have been established. The element used for the condensation of the water vapour may consists of any of the devices normally utilised for these purposes or it may be a water/air exchange device or a unit heater, the installation of one or the other instrument dependant on the particular needs of refrigeration in existence for each installation to be set up.
The desalinised water thus obtained has much lower salt contents than those present by comparison in samples obtained from running water for domestic use. On the other hand, parameters such as the pH (levels), electric conductivity and chloride content, sulphites and boron remain within margins that allow the use of the desalinised water for agricultural or industrial applications, as human consumption is possible after a mineralisation process.
It remains to be emphasised that the possibility is foreseen of setting up the described unit on top of a revolving base, so as to optimise the better use of solar radiation thanks to the possibility of following the sun’s movement during the course of the day.
According to tests carried out using prototypes of this invention values have been obtained of salt concentration in water that are much lower than those obtained with inverted osmosis processes, as the salt content with the described device is up to fur times lower compared to the osmosis system.
The described salt desalinisation device by means of solar captors represents therefore an innovative structure with structural and constituent characteristics that were up-to-now unknown for this purpose; reason why, together with its practical usefulness, there is sufficient basis to grant the privilege of exclusivity that is being requested.
DRAWINGS’ DESCRIPTION
To complement the description being made, and with the purpose of facilitating the better understanding of the invention’s characteristics, the present brief is accompanied by and as integral part of it, several drawings in the form of, but not limited to, illustrations which are described as follows:
Drawing 1 – depicts a representative scheme of the distinct parts of the device with one solar capture module.
Drawing 2 – shows a perspective view of the installation of 5 plates situated on a revolving base.
IDEAL SET UP OF THE DEVICE
In view of the mentioned drawings and in accordance with the numeration used, one can observe an example of ideal set up of the invention, which comprises the parts and elements indicated and which are described in detail as follows, without in the least limiting the possibilities (of application) of the invention.
The invention proposed is configured with one tank (4), which will for the most part have a flat configuration, with one or more surfaces facing south and with a degree inclination equivalent to the latitude of the area in which it is installed. Upon said tank (4) and on the side facing the sun is placed a capturing surface (2) made of asphalt bitumen or any other suitable material, which has the purpose of absorbing all the heat deriving from the sun radiation and transmit it to the interior of the tank (4).
The tank is oriented and fixed by means of a supporting structure (7) especially built for this purpose, which is composed of steel profiles of small thickness, although it is possible to use any of the suitable methods normally used to support these types of elements.
In order to maximise the quantity of heat obtained, a series of temperate glass laminates (3) is placed on the tank (4) and the capturing surface (2) unit, at an approximate distance of 2cm and adequately covering the lateral openings, which cause a hothouse (greenhouse) effect in the interior of the container formed by these three elements. The temperate glass allows the retention of part of the sun radiation that bounces on the capturing surface (2), in addition to insulating the exterior of the tank (4).
By means of an accessible piping (1), the water to be desalinised will be introduced to the interior of the tank (4). Once the water has reached the interior (of the tank), the existing temperature difference between the exterior and the interior of the tank will cause the entering water to boil so that a gaseous fraction and a solid fraction, composed by the salts previously contained in the water, are separated.
At the highest point of the tank (4) is an opening (5) that allows the exit of the water vapour and it conduction to the condenser (9).
In the interior part of the tank (4) is a container for the salts (13) that will reach this position by force of gravity and which is equipped with a register (recorder) (6) to allow the periodic elimination of the accumulated salts.
The water vapour that reaches the condenser (9) will change to liquid form so that by means of gravity it will be conveyed to the exit (10) to the final container of the water produced (12), from where it will finally be taken to its consumption point.
It is important to indicate that all the parts of the installation that are in contact with the exterior, including water or vapour conductors, are properly heat-resistant-treated with the purpose of limiting as much as possible any dispersions.
It remains to be said that in the case of an installation comprising several solar captors, as can be seen in Drawing 2, it will be necessary to create the aforementioned conductors from each one of the tanks (4) for the boiling of the water to the condenser, which will be common to all the captors, as well as the tank for the water produced, so that thanks to the modularity of the device it is possible to minimise the marginal cost of each one of these devices in accordance with the size of the installation.
Having appropriately described the nature of this invention, as well as its application, it is not deemed necessary to expand further its explanation so that any expert on the subject may suitably understand its scope and the advantages that derive from it, noting that, fundamentally, it may be created in other forms that may differ in detail from the one described here as an example and that will equally allow the integrity intended as long as its fundamental principle is not altered, changed or modified.
CLAIMS
1. WATER DESALINATION DEVICE BY MEANS OF SOLAR (RADIATION) CAPTURE consisting of a tank (4), upon which is placed a surface absorbing solar radiation (2), a set of tempered glass laminates (3) placed at approximately 2 cm distance from the absorbing surface with a lateral lock of the unit (14), which disposes of an upper water vapour exit container (5) and a container for salts and minerals (13) situated in its lower part, with a condenser (9) along the vapour exit and a tank for the water produced (12) where the water will be conveyed by means of exit condensation piping (10).
2. WATER DESALINATION DEVICE BY MEANS OF SOLAR (RADIATION) CAPTURE in accordance with Claim 1., characterised by means of a container for salts and minerals (13) with a register (6) which allows the removal of the salts.
3. WATER DESALINATION DEVICE BY MEANS OF SOLAR (RADIATION) CAPTURE in accordance with Claims 1. and 2., characterised by the whole unit being built upon a revolving base or platform(8).
