Four Channel EEG
1.3.2 Cardiac potentials and pulse waves
The R wave component of the electrocardiogram (ECG) may be seen as a regularly occurring transient, particularly from the commonly used mastoid EEG electrode derivation (Figure 1.15). It can be detected in processed EEG displays by noting the relationship in heart rate changes to the frequency of a suspect transient. Cardiac pacemakers can produce brief, regular spikes on all EEG channels. Detection in unprocessed EEG traces is accomplished by comparison with a conventional ECG or mastoid-to-mastoid recording.
