German term

Geht nicht gibt's nicht

German to English Marketing Transport / Transportation / Shipping Firmenpräsentation, Transportunternehmen (Mittelstand)

Discussion

dkfmmuc (asker) Jun 23, 2015:
*Soft closing* *Thank you* Dear colleagues,
it's really great and overwhelming to have a vast array of opportunities for one single term :-)

Just writing the German text right now and therefore please don't be astonished if I will rate the suggestions in some days. BTW: Will print the answers and then will put it into my "WOW" folder. (You know....this is *the* folder where I collect some remarkable pieces of the language journey).
Ramey Rieger (X) Jun 22, 2015:
@Phil Aaaaah, but we can try ;-). It's just been said so many times, almost up there with the onetime 'proactive' (shudder).
WE MOVE MOUNTAINS
philgoddard Jun 22, 2015:
"No such thing as can't" is the exact English equivalent, so I'm not sure there's much point coming up with lots of other ideas. For once, no great creativity is required :-)
Ramey Rieger (X) Jun 22, 2015:
Hey my friend it's REALLY okay. So your target audience is not country specific? One more international English project? IF you're interested in th humorous/metaphorical approach:
When time stands still
In a million years
OR to mark the company's omnipotence (it's man's world?):
(we move) Everything under the sun/mountains

Whatever you choose is fine with me, you know best, you're the translator!
dkfmmuc (asker) Jun 22, 2015:
Ramey, it *is* a great suggestion! Thanks for the additional explanation and shedding light on the great suggestion. Now I get the message. But there is so much pressure on the wole industry like CO2 discussion, lack of renewable fuel sources, toll and their fair amount, the discussion about regional food and "low" emission footprints and so on.....
Therefore I won't open this discussion about meat/animal/food transportation which in the imagination of the reader occurs if he combines pigs with "schnitzel". Additional there are some regions/destinations where pigs are generally impure.

So the flying pig is a great image and has fascinating aspects but can't use it for that order in order to avoid hassle.
Ramey Rieger (X) Jun 22, 2015:
Okay! It seems I have to explain my suggestion. The expression asked for has crossed my path OFTEN. As a heading, you have relative freedom - the point is to keep the reader's/potential client's interest. When pigs fly, has nothing to do with animal transport, it is a wonderfully clear, well-recognized and amusing metaphor for something that is NEVER going to happen. I know, it is the OPPOSITE of the term asked for, which was exactly why I chose it, coming from another angle.
Claudia Hoffmann Jun 22, 2015:
We don't take no for an answer
dkfmmuc (asker) Jun 22, 2015:
Bin beeindruckt!

When pigs fly

Hi there! If this is a heading, then it is made clear beneath what they're getting at. I'm swamped, but I'll keep this in mind, maybe there will be more to come..... Good Luck!

That's fine, sweetie, but it has absolutely NO connection to animal transport.

Note from asker:
Thanks for your suggestion. Sorry to say that I won't choose it. The reason is that I will try to avoid any reminder on live cattle services which are highly criticized. (AFAIK they have no such service in their fleet - but don't know about cooperaion partners).
Peer comment(s):

neutral Birgit Gläser : Sorry, but this is just the opposite... they claim to be able to transport anything.... changed to neutral, but I for one do not get your point... it is the equivalent of "not in a million years", so not the positive message they are looking for....
24 mins
for heaven's sake, that's EXACTLY the point!//That all depends on the text beneath the heading. Most native speakers can easily recognize irony - we even enjoy dichotomy in language.
agree Michael Martin, MA : Nice to see a refreshing twist, Ramey. Perhaps add “When pigs fly, we swoop in” so that everybody gets it...?// Reasoning sounds outlandish, though. Not sure I’d care for the business of anybody who gets upset about the mere mention of pigs..
1 hr
Thank you, Michael, but it's not appropriate to the text. I'll save it for a later date. Take care!
agree Lancashireman : Porcine Translation Services & Co. Inc. "We will make a pig's ear of your source text" OR "Casting transcreational pearls before swine"

There's always a way

We [or company name] always find a way
If there's a way we'll find it

Another attempt - not quite sure exactly what you're looking for if you're not taken with any of the suggestions in the previous question you quoted or in this one: http://www.proz.com/kudoz/german_to_english/advertising_publ...
Note from asker:
This is a great one. Sorry that I won't choose it. For me it's too near to a German slogan of a rural savings bank which says "Wir machen den Weg frei". I am sure you didn't see it, the TV ads are completely exaggerated. (Therefore the slogan "poisened" for some years - in my perception).
Peer comment(s):

agree franglish : I like it. How about: "We have the means, we always find the way"?

Nothing we can't get rolling

Just came to my mind... Maybe the rolling fits nicely as it is for transportation.
