It was about tweaking Windows. It was not a virus but this company was using a network feature. I'm going to try and find it again.

Do you have Windows XP SP2?

Florence

Ideally type the exact wording in "quotes". Also downloading and installing the google toolbar prevents pop-up messages quite well and is useful in other ways.

Only Ewido ( [url removed] ) finally solved the problem.

HTH!

Forum: Safe computing
Topic: Pop-up
Poster: Alan Campbell
Post title: Spyware / Malware

You've got spyware or malware on your computer. This can usually be removed by scanning your system with some antispyware software. Try SpyBot Search & Destroy ( [url removed] ) or Microsoft Defender ( [url removed] ).

There are also online scanners, such as Trend Micro™ Anti-Spyware for the Web ( [url removed] )

Hopefully that should do the trick. If not, let us know.

And beware of Outlook attachments from now on. It is generally considered to be more secure to browse the web with Firefox than Internet Explorer. Less chance of picking up nasties that way.

Good luck!

Alan

Edit: Outlook uses the Internet Explorer engine to view messages. Switch off HTML viewing of emails and you won't get stung by spyware-laden emails. Or, better still, switch to Thunderbird!

[Edited at 2006-10-16 09:27]
