The way we achieve peace is to stand up to tyranny, and if it gets violent, you respond in kind. That tank guy in China is still in jail, even after all the little protesters complaining about it all the time. His peace friends have been oppressed in one way or another as well. The fastest way to uproot the Chinese ruling thugs will be through violence, not peace chains.

Lord Chamberlain and the rest produced World War II because they said, essentially, "give peace a chance". No, you stomp out tyrants, in this case Hitler, with forceful violence.

Lennon was pretty weak in the philosophy category. I'll take P.J. O'Rourke over him any day. Here he is: [url removed]

+1.

War and violence are needed - and indeed good -, when someone is standing against totalitarian deeds, regimes and persons. Platitudes about peace do nothing to boost our odds of achieving real peace.

you know what fighting for peace is like.... (If not, google "Fighting for peace is like"). As Albert Camus said: "There are causes worth dying for, but none worth killing for." And Martin Luther King said: "War is a poor chisel to carve out tomorrows".

May be, may be... But as I have noticed among those who really oppose tyranny we can usually see more peace-oriented beads wearing yippies than aggressive but conformist ties wearing yuppies...

A simple feel-good message is the key to selling millions and millions and millions and millions of albums (and T-shirts, mugs...)

Yes, let's give peace a chance. A sincere chance!

And no, I'm not a dreamer believing that we can actually live as one - if only we try.

John Lennon said that, too.

Yes, a peace chain is so much needed - now and forever.
War is on the verge of returning to both parts of Korea, there's still no solid peace in many of the African nations. There is too much dissatisfaction, too much povertry and injustice on the one side, too much reckless greed on the other here on this planet; fertile ground for riots, uprisings, and new wars.

Yes, let's give peace a chance. A sincere chance!

And no, I'm not a dreamer believing that we can actually live as one - if only we try.

Have a great, a peaceful weekend. :)

It was one of my favourite songs at that time.

I remember on 3 November 1976... no, frankly I don't remember it well as I was too drunk that very early morning... my friends told me later that Give Peace a Chance was the last song I put on my turntable just a minute before leaving home... that morning I left for Asia where I spent two years serving in the Soviet army... at that time military service was obligatory in the USSR...

Many years passed and my hair is not so long as it used to be... but somewhere inside I still keep those ideals... Make Love...

Next week it will be thirty years since the untimely demise of that great peace activist, singer and composer, John Lennon, who penned many songs in favour of peace, at a particularly difficult time in the world with the Vietnam War and the Cold War, among others.

You may hear John Lennon's message for peace at:

[url removed]

Once again we are going through difficult times in the world, so whatever your religion or political views it is important to remember Lennon's famous words:

"Imagine all the people,
Living in a world of peace
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one,
I hope some day you'll join us,
And the world will live as one".
