Bio
I am a graduate student completing his Master’s thesis in Sociology and I perform translations part-time. Although I do not have a formal translator's education, I have accumulated a lot of experience over 10 years as a freelance translator and interpreter. I have also provided language-related services in other professional contexts, especially during my business internships.

Being a native of Moldova, I speak Romanian (Moldavian) and Russian as my mother tongues. I have used English extensively in my education and for my reading and writing, and I pride myself on my ability to use it effectively. I have been living in Turkey for 13 years and speak and write excellent, near native-level Turkish. I feel very comfortable translating to and from any of these four languages. I am highly proficient in Spanish and Italian with very good comprehension. I am comfortable translating from these languages, but I translate slower into them and the results are perhaps less elegant, so they are less convenient for me as target languages.

As a freelancer I translated a variety of documents, using in the process my knowledge of all of the aforementioned six languages. However the bulk of my work involved Turkish, English and Romanian and consisted of legal documents, especially court decisions, letters of indictment, correspondence between courts and excerpts from the Turkish law. I have also translated various business documents including contracts, inter- and intra-department communications including correspondence on legal matters, various materials used by the HR and IT departments, risk assessments etc. My undergraduate education (B.S.) in International Trade and my business internships have gained me a very good familiarity with business-related and economic/financial terminology, especially in English and Turkish; as a result I am comfortable translating most documents in these domains.

Another chief area in which I specialize is social sciences and philosophy, in keeping with my Master’s major (Sociology) and academic experience. I have translated fewer such texts, however I have had a very positive experience with them in terms of speed, the quality of the final product and the satisfaction I derived from the job.

I would say that my greatest strengths as a translator are a commitment to thoroughness and an ability to use language flexibly so as to convey the meaning of the original document accurately and elegantly.

My detailed resume is available upon request. Please do not hesitate to request any further relevant information.
