Source text - English The Venezuelan opposition leader, Juan Guaido, recognized as the entrusted president by more than 50 countries, is not going to respond to president Nicolas Maduro's challenge to hold elections, he told CNN Press Officer Edward Rodriguez.
Rodriguez added that ''We've already established the agenda.''
According to the Press Officer, Guaido has always said that elections will be held "30 days after the usurper has left power", and that has yet to occur.
On Saturday, Maduro challenged opposition leader Juan Guaido to hold elections. In front of a large gathering of his supporters, Maduro, who called Guaido a "clown" and "imperialist puppet", asked why he hadn't called for elections if he really has the power.
Guaido is now in Bogota, as confirmed by the Colombia Presidential Department of the Press. Guaido is expected to attend the group session this Monday in Lima and to meet with U.S Vice President, Mike Pence.

Días antes de que se conocieran las revelaciones del director editorial de The Atlantic y de Bob Woodward, una encuesta levantada entre miembros activos del Ejército señala que sólo 38 por ciento tiene una opinión favorable de su comandante en jefe.
Con toda seguridad esa calificación ha caído aún más luego de conocerse que Trump no quiso rendir homenaje a los soldados estadounidenses enterrados en un cementerio cercano a París, porque no le gusta estar cerca de “loosers”: si los mataron eran unos perdedores, dijo a su staff.
La encuesta de Military Times, que se publicó la semana pasada, indica que Joe Biden tenía una ventaja de cuatro puntos sobre Trump entre los integrantes de las Fuerzas Armadas.
Es la primera vez en décadas que los miembros del Ejército reprueban a un presidente republicano y se aprestan a votar mayoritariamente por un demócrata.

Escribo en pasado, porque las agujas dentro del Ejército se han movido en una semana de revelaciones que enseñan a un Trump que califica de “maricones” a sus generales y sin sensibilidad hacia los muertos en combate, entre ellos el hijo del exsecretario de Seguridad de Estados Unidos durante el inicio de su mandato, John Kelly.
El Día de los Caídos, en 2017, Trump y Kelly visitaron el cementerio de Arlington, donde está enterrado el hijo del exsecretario –Robert–, asesinado en Afganistán, y junto a su tumba, rodeado de cruces blancas de soldados muertos en batalla, el presidente le dijo: “No entiendo. ¿Qué ganaron ellos?”
Durante su visita a Francia, en 2018, Trump canceló una visita programada al cementerio Aisne-Marne, donde reposan los restos de mil 800 soldados estadounidenses muertos en el combate para detener el avance alemán hacia París en la Primera Guerra Mundial, pues en su opinión fueron “tontos” que se dejaron matar.
Y le preguntó a su staff: “¿quiénes eran los buenos en esa guerra?”.
Ninguno de los generales que acompañaron a Trump en ese viaje ha desmentido lo publicado en The Atlantic el pasado día siete de este mes.
Tampoco John Kelly, hacia quien apuntan las sospechas de la Casa Blanca de ser la fuente de información del reportaje.
Cuando murió el exsenador y candidato presidencial republicano, John McCain, héroe de guerra en Vietnam, donde estuvo prisionero cuatro años, Trump le dijo a un asistente: “no vamos a apoyar el funeral de un perdedor. No es un héroe. Me gusta la gente que no fue capturada”.
De acuerdo con The Atlantic, se refirió a George Bush (padre) como “un perdedor”, porque fue derribado por los japoneses cuando era piloto de la Armada en la Segunda Guerra (otros ocho fueron derribados con Bush, a quienes los capturaron, torturaron y ejecutaron. “Perdedores”, les llama Trump.
Todo eso se conoció antes de que se publicara la encuesta en que la mayoría de los militares reprueba la gestión de Trump.
Les pegó mucho la orden presidencial de abandonar a los kurdos en Siria, que combatieron heroicamente al Ejército Islámico (ISIS). Su desprecio por los aliados estratégicos en la OTAN y en Lejano Oriente.
Pero hay más, y no menos importante. La mayoría de los miembros de las Fuerzas Armadas apoyan (contra la voluntad de Trump) cambiar el nombre a bases militares que llevan el apellido de generales confederados (que pelearon por mantener a los negros como esclavos).
Consideran, de manera abrumadora, que debe prohibirse la bandera confederada que aún ondea en algunas bases del Ejército.
Y, muy importante, no ven a la migración, ni a la desobediencia civil ni a las protestas por la igualdad racial como riesgos para la seguridad nacional de Estados Unidos.
Después de la encuesta vinieron las revelaciones acerca de los dichos ofensivos del presidente Trump hacia los generales y soldados del Ejército del cual es comandante supremo.
Tiene a las Fuerzas Armadas en contra. Están con Biden, aun sin ser simpatizantes del Partido Demócrata.
La posición de las Fuerzas Armadas es importante en estas elecciones porque una de las posibilidades, adelantada por el presidente, es que no reconozca el resultado y se atrinchere en la Casa Blanca. Alguien tendrá que sacarlo.

On Memorial Day 2017, Trump and Kelly visited Arlington National Cemetery, where Robert, the former secretary’s son who died in Afghanistan, was buried. At his grave, surrounded by white crosses of soldiers killed in battle, the president said, “I don’t understand, what did they win?”
During his visit to France in 2018, Trump canceled a scheduled visit to the Aisne-Marne cemetery, where the remains of 1,800 U.S. soldiers who died in combat to stop the German advance into Paris in World War I lie. The reason for this is, in his opinion, they were “suckers” who allowed themselves to be killed.
What’s more, he asked his staff, “Who were the good guys in this war?”
Not a single one of the generals who accompanied Trump on that trip has denied what was published in The Atlantic.
Neither has John Kelly, whom the White House suspects of being the source of the report.
When former senator and Republican presidential candidate John McCain, a Vietnam war hero who was held captive for four years, passed away, Trump told an aide, “We’re not going to support that loser’s funeral. He is not a war hero. I like people who were not captured.”
According to The Atlantic, Trump referred to former President George Bush Sr. as “a loser” because he was shot down by the Japanese when he was a Navy pilot in World War II. Eight others were shot down with Bush; they were captured, tortured and executed. “Losers” are what Trump calls them.
All this became widely known before the publication of the survey that showed an overwhelming majority of the military disapproves of Trump’s leadership.
The presidential order to abandon the Kurds in Syria, who heroically fought the Islamic State of Syria and ISIS, and his contempt for the U.S.’ strategic allies in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and the Far East, hit them hard.
There is more. Most members of the armed forces support, against Trump’s will, renaming military bases that carry the names of Confederate generals (who fought to keep Blacks as slaves).
To a large extent, they believe that the Confederate flag, which still flies overhead on some military bases to this day, should be banned.
Furthermore, they do not see immigration, civil disobedience or racial equality protests as threatening U.S. national security.
After the poll came the revelations about President Trump’s offensive remarks toward his generals and the service members for whom he is the commander-in-chief.
The armed forces are against him. They are with Biden, even if they are not Democratic Party sympathizers.
The armed forces’ stance is vital in this election because one of the possibilities, as the president suggested himself, is that he will not accept the election results and will use emergency powers to remain in the White House. Someone has to remove him from office.

Así ha definido las próximas elecciones presidenciales el equipo de campaña de Joe Biden, el aspirante demócrata a desalojar a Donald Trump de la Casa Blanca. Es una definición certera. Los comicios del 3 de noviembre, lejos de servir únicamente para elegir un presidente, suponen también un referéndum sobre qué valores preferirán la mayoría de estadounidenses para representarse a sí mismos y a su país, tanto dentro como fuera de sus propias fronteras.
Biden, que de ganar las elecciones sería el segundo presidente católico de Estados Unidos -el primero fue John F. Kennedy-, se presenta a sí mismo como un aliado de la luz frente a la oscuridad del trumpismo. Su campaña va a centrarse en proyectarse con vocación de ser un presidente de todos y liderar un proyecto de reunificación de los estadounidenses alrededor de los valores básicos del respeto y la convivencia democrática que Trump no ha dejado de dinamitar durante su mandato.
Las encuestas son claramente favorables a los demócratas en estos momentos. La pésima gestión sanitaria de la pandemia ha situado a Trump en una situación muy complicada. No solo porque Estados Unidos sea el país con el peor registro de infectados y fallecidos, sino porque las graves consecuencias económicas de la crisis hacen imposible que los republicanos puedan llegar a los comicios enarbolando la bandera de la recuperación económica, que es la baza con la que contaban tan solo hace unos meses.
La nominación como candidato de Biden, vicepresidente con Barak Obama, no fue un camino de rosas. Para lograrla tuvo que conseguir que se impusiera el pragmatismo entre las bases demócratas y barrer del escenario propuestas izquierdistas más radicales, como la que representaba el senador Bernie Sanders. Había dudas sobre si el ala más izquierdista de los demócratas se mantendría fiel a Biden, pero la Convención Demócrata las ha despejado y, a diferencia de hace cuatro años con Hillary Clinton, esta vez todo el Partido Demócrata parece dispuesto a trabajar codo con codo para desalojar a Trump del Despacho Oval.
En este sentido, la elección de Kamala Harris, hija de inmigrantes de origen jamaicano e indio instalados entre la élite económica y cultural y con una impecable trayectoria profesional y política, como candidata a la vicepresidencia ha sido un acierto de Biden, puesto que aporta un plus de ilusión imprescindible a partes muy relevantes de su electorado que no estaban de entrada entusiasmados con un candidato de 77 años que lleva medio siglo en política.

She brings an essential added value to important parts of his electorate that were not initially enthusiastic about a 77-year-old candidate who has been in politics for half a century.
Even though all the polls favor the Democrats at the moment, we know from experience to be wary of predictions. Trump is relying on a strategy that involves intimidating his opponent, even going so far as to encourage his supporters to pressure Democratic voters at the polling places so they will give in to Trump’s absolute determination to stay in the White House.
The candidates’ debate is a political institution in the United States. Trump, an expert in destroying institutions, was particularly effective in this line of work on Tuesday. The debate was transformed into a pitiful political boxing match from which there were no winners, only losers, particularly democracy. Trump wants to eke a victory out of this defeat.

El de Trump se caracteriza por ser un carácter explosivo y conflictivo, que explica sus guerras de lodo contra todo lo que se le oponga. Así empezó su presidencia (los mexicanos son violadores y asesinos) y así parece que está destinado a terminarla. No se vale de la política —no entiende de política, sino sólo de propaganda— como elemento o instrumento transformador, como vehículo de cambio o como factor de avance progresivo hacia la solución y consolidación de las mejores causas de la democracia política en casa y afuera.
La anormalidad democrática que esto indica, y que se expresa en una política pública caótica e impudente, tiene en su último asalto una peculiaridad provocativa, aunque no novedosa. El martes de la semana pasada Trump escribió un tuit en el que señala que “con el voto universal por correo, la de 2020 será la más inexacta y fraudulenta elección de la historia. Será una vergüenza para EU” y termina con una pregunta: “¿retrasar la elección hasta que la gente pueda votar segura y apropiadamente?”. De acuerdo con el Washington Post¸ esta afirmación contiene, en sí misma, todos los elementos de una táctica fascista.
La declaración trumpista ocurre en un momento en el que las encuestas no le favorecen y en el que Biden lo aventaja con cerca de 10 puntos a nivel nacional y a nivel de los estados llamados “bisagra”, los cuales son determinantes para ganar la mayoría necesaria en el colegio electoral, tales como Arizona (3.7), Wisconsin (5.0), Michigan (7.8), Pensilvania (6.0), Ohio (1.5), Florida (6.2), e incluso en Texas, estado republicano desde los años ochenta, en donde están prácticamente empatados. La declaración es, también, una evidencia más de cómo la personalidad narcisista y el miedo a perder la elección invaden el universo íntimo de Trump. De aquí su guerra constante y delirante contra el mundo que lo rodea y que no lo comprende ni acepta como a él le plazca, incluidos China, Irán, Obama, los demócratas, la gran prensa que lo critica a cada traspié que él, ególatra iracundo, comete casi en forma suicida y con una torpeza que a Biden y a los demócratas les viene como anillo al dedo. Tanto el pésimo manejo de la pandemia, como el del racismo sistémico que volvió a desbordar los ánimos, como no se había visto desde los años ochenta, cuando se le propinó una golpiza histórica al ciudadano afroestadunidense, Rodney King, han puesto de manifiesto no sólo la incompetencia de un presidente advenedizo, sino también la aversión antidemocrática que circula por todo el DNA trumpista. A partir del asesinato en mayo de este año de otro afroestadunidense, George Floyd, su respuesta autoritaria se convirtió en la gota que derramó el vaso, arrastrando a niveles mínimos su popularidad, a tal grado que esto muy fácilmente puede estar significando ya el principio del fin de su presidencia.
El desliz de Trump sobre el aplazamiento de las elecciones no sólo es una muestra más de su personalidad autoritaria y narcisista, también expresa el nulo conocimiento que este hombre tiene de la Constitución de su país, la cual, me atrevo a asegurar, no ha leído o no ha leído completa. Así las cosas, autoritarismo y nulo conocimiento técnico de su oficio se juntan en un solo y pavoroso momento. Trump ignora que la fecha de la elección presidencial (el primer martes de la primera semana completa de noviembre, cada cuatro años) sólo se puede determinar o cambiar por el poder legislativo. El artículo 2, fracción 4 de la Constitución de EU dice a la letra:”el Congreso podrá determinar la fecha y el día que habrán de asignarse a los electores para presentar sus votos; tal fecha deberá ser la misma en todo el territorio de EU”. Biden is also leading in the so-called purple states, which are vital to winning the needed majority of the electoral vote: Arizona (3.7), Wisconsin (5.0), Michigan (7.8), Pennsylvania (6.0), Ohio (1.5), Florida (6.2), and even Texas, a Republican state since the 1980s, where they are virtually tied, are examples of these kinds of swing states. The statement is also further evidence of how a narcissistic personality and the fear of losing an election invade Trump’s intimate universe. Hence his ongoing and delirious war against the world that surrounds him, which he neither understands nor accepts as he sees fit. The list includes China, Iran, Barack Obama, the Democrats and the mainstream media, which criticize him with every misstep. Being the angry egomaniac he is, he does this in near-suicidal fashion with a kind of clumsiness that is right up the alley of Biden and the Democrats. The terrible mishandling of the pandemic and the systemic racism that has once again stirred the pot, unseen since the infamous Rodney King police beating in the 1980s, has brought to light the incompetence of an upstart president along with the distaste for democracy that runs through his DNA. Trump’s authoritarian response to the murder of another African American man, George Floyd, in May was the straw that broke the camel’s back, dragging his popularity down to such a degree that this could very easily be the beginning of the end of his presidency.
Trump’s mistake in suggesting that we postpone the upcoming election demonstrates his authoritarian and narcissistic personality and the zero knowledge he has of his country’s Constitution, which, I dare to say he has not read – or not in full. Thus, authoritarianism and the lack of any technical knowledge about his profession came together in one dreadful moment. Trump is unaware that the date of the presidential election (the first Tuesday of the first full week in November, every four years) can only be determined or changed by Congress. The fourth clause of Article II of the U.S. Constitution states: “The Congress may determine the Time of chusing the Electors, and the Day on which they shall give their Votes; which Day shall be the same throughout the United States.” In addition to the much criticized slip-up, Trump has rejected mail-in voting and, along with Senate Republicans, has refused to provide the support that the U.S. postal system needs.
Moreover, they do so because they suspect with good reason that they are a moment away from losing the election, which includes, for the first time in decades, the possible loss of the Senate. Mail-in voting is a right to which citizens are historically entitled, and this vote is more important than ever given the circumstances imposed by the pandemic. The warning that there would be fraud is yet another Trump masquerade. It attempts to intimidate citizens and influence the procedures that states conduct to implement mail-in voting. This is another of Trump’s wars which has very little chance of succeeding, given the reaction and resistance that we have seen.
