Tech/Engineering - Construction / Civil Engineering
Swedish term or phrase: elektroniklinjen
I have a customer who wants his report card translated. He insists that I translate "Elektroniklinjen" as "Electrical Engineering Program". The transcript from 1988 includes algebra, analys/calculus, informationsteknik, digitalteknik, datorstöd problemlösning, signaler och system, microdatorkonstruktion; tillämpad electronik.

Would this be a type of "Electronics program" instead of an "Electrical Engineering program" (which would be "Elektrotekniklinjen"?. It looks like he only completed 50 of 80 credits. I

electrical engineering

Explanation:
Like your client said. 'Teknik' combined with several other sciences generally translates to Engineering.

Here's some confirmation -- "En utbildning inom elektroteknik eller ”Electrical engineering" (som det heter på engelska)" (In the Jobb och Framtid section)

disagree  Agneta Pallinder: But the asker specifies "elektronik" and NOT "elektroteknik" (electrical engineering).

-> Well, I'm presuming in 1988 they didn't have the same Swe designation. The courses stated fit into the computer-oriented university EE degrees I was acquainted with (back when). But yeah, that was a few years ago!

agree  Paul Gratwick: From a cursory study, it appears that the terms use reflect the level of difficulty and the length of the course, which in Sweden is indicated by the number of points. I think you need more background information.

Electronics program

Explanation:
From a cursory study, it seems to depend on the difficulty level and length of the course your client took. I surmise that a “Elektronik linje” would not be as comprehensive as a full “Electrical Engineering” program. Maybe that's why he wants you to use Electrical Engineering because it looks better! I could be wrong, though!
