Spanish to English translations [PRO]
Social Sciences - Social Science, Sociology, Ethics, etc. / literature review
Spanish term or phrase: articulo de difusión / divulgación
The term comes from an academic article written in Spain and is used when listing the types of article found after conducting a academic literature review.

Other article types mentioned are:
Report on study results
Empirical study
Compendium
Systematic review.

So i understand the idea of an "articulor de difusión" but can't hit on the actual term. A search for "Dissemination article", for instance, turns up mostly websites translated from Spanish

agree  Joss Heywood: In a scientific context, this would be a popularization article

agree  philgoddard: I think you need references. Surely this would be "difusión pública". //OK, you've persuaded me! You could also say "general-interest".

  -> Just added some!

neutral  ormiston: Not really a neutral, but do you mean 'mainstream' by this ?

  -> I think Joss above actually hits on the right term: "popularization article". I'm not sure we'd use "mainstream" in this context , but it's a scientific text that is easy to understand - not aimed at academics but at teachers, students, general readers..

article for publication

Explanation:
Could be an option (article for publication in professional/scientific/academic journals), as most academics are required to earn kudos by publishing such articles. So, this is most likely what they mean

NB: Pax Shilpa, although I mentioned publication in scientific/academic journals, my suggestion "article for publication" could just as well be aimed at the general public.

Example sentence(s):
  • Grad students and colleagues who are preparing articles for publication...

magazine article / general article

Explanation:
The purpose of a magazine is to provide information for the general audience, (no background knowledge or expertise is assumed), as opposed to a journal article which is intended for experts in the subject.

I believe by using "magazine article" or "general article" you are conveying the exact meaning of an "artículo de difusión".

Example sentence(s):
  • A scientist´s colleagues will be a minority of the readership of a magazine article.

[short/brief] communication [paper/article]

Explanation:
Given the context of a review of academic literature, I think this may be what it's referring to.

"Un artículo de divulgación es un escrito generalmente breve, que puede explicar hechos, ideas, conceptos, ideas y descubrimientos vinculados al quehacer científico y tecnológico, el cual está destinado a un tipo de público más general y no especializado en la temática que aborda, aunque sí interesado y que se difundirá ...Jul 2, 2017

"Short Communications is a new section dedicated to short papers addressing new ideas, controversial opinions, “Negative” results and much more."

"SHORT COMMUNICATIONS: A short communication paper should have an Abstract containing the gist of the paper and should not exceed 60 words. It should not exceed three printed pages (900 words) including Graphs, Tables and Figures. The presentation should be continuous and paragraphed, i.e. without headings like Introduction, Materials and Methods, etc."

article dissemination

Explanation:
Dissemination is a wide scattering or spread, promulgated abroad or disseminated news which is widely published.
(article of disclosure / on disclosure)
It can also be a disclosure article for the general public.

I wonder if broadcasting news or other programmes on TV and radio could also be considered as dissemination.

Example sentence(s):
  • El artículo revelante fue publicado y diseminado en varios lugares, y así era disponible para mucha gente.
  • The revealing article was widely published and disseminated in several places and so it was available for many people.
