3d. Pisos bioclimáticos

Los pisos bioclimáticos son cada uno de los tipos de condiciones climáticas que se suceden en una cliserie altitudinal o latitudinal. Se delimitan en función de los factores termoclimáticos (It, Itc, Tp) y ombroclimáticos (Io). Cada piso bioclimático posee unas determinadas formaciones y comunidades vegetales: los pisos de vegetación. Aunque el fenómeno de la zonación tiene jurisdicción universal y los valores umbrales ombroclimáticos (Io) son equivalentes, los termoclimáticos (It, Itc, Tp) difieren algo en la mayoría de los macrobioclimas.

Termotipos. Los rangos termoclimáticos se basan en la suma de temperaturas máximas, medias o mínimas mensuales o anuales. Por conveniencias de nivel global, derivadas de sus peculiaridades termoclimáticas y vegetacionales, se reconoce una secuencia altitudinal o latitudinal de termotipos (termopisos) en cada uno de los macrobioclimas de la Tierra: tropical (infra-, termo-, meso-, supra-, oro-, crioro- y gélido); mediterráneo (infra-, termo-, meso-, supra-, oro-, crioro- y gélido); templado (infra-, termo-, meso-, supra-, oro-, crioro- y gélido), que corresponden respectivamente a los pisos y horizontes altitudinales clásicos: infracolino, termocolino, eucolino, submontano, montano, altimontano, subalpino, alpino, subnival, nival y gélido; boreal (termo-, meso-, supra-, oro-, crioro- y gélido); polar (termo-, meso-, supra- y gélido). Para una concordancia más afinada con la vegetación, a veces es necesario distinguir en los pisos bioclimáticos la mitad inferior y superior de sus intervalos térmicos y ómbricos, que denominamos horizontes bioclimáticos termotípicos y ombrotípicos. Si en algún caso fuese necesario una subdivisión menor más afinada, tales intervalos equitativos podrían denominarse niveles: superior e inferior.

Horizontes termotípicos. En la figura 19, aparecen detallados los intervalos de It, Itc y Tp de los horizontes termotípicos correspondientes a todos los macrobioclimas, así como las abreviaturas que los designan.
