Fueron compilados trabajos publicados y no publicados de Ephedripites, Equisetosporites, Chomsiipites, Galeacornea, Gnetaceaepollenites, Singhia y Steevesipollenites. Se realizó una revisión detallada de los caracteres morfológicos de cada especie y se determinaron los caracteres diagnósticos para los 6 géneros de plicate grains. Seis caracteres diagnósticos fueron establecidos; 1. fusión de plicas en la apocolpia, 2. patrón de las plicas (rotado o longitudinal), 3. engrosamiento en la apocolpia, 4. bifurcación de plicas, 5. número de plicas y 6. tamaño de los granos.

Con base en estos 6 caracteres fue construida una clave dicotómica y una matriz de 73 especies en la cual se establecieron los estados para cada caracter (Tabla 1)
