touched down on Mars

Explanation:
The expression "touched down on Mars" reads naturally and may be more appropriate for some target readerships.
In my many years teaching translation into English in Scots and Irish Universities I have always advised my students to consider using phrasal verbs whenever possible when translating from Romance languages as it often results in a translated text which reads more naturally in English.
