Spanish term

plano

Spanish to English Tech/Engineering Aerospace / Aviation / Space
This is a part of a commercial plane, and I can't figure out what it is. The other structures in the list are fuselaje/fuselage, tren de aterrizaje/landing gear, estabilizadores/stabilizers, plantas motrices/engines, etc. and here is the phrase in particular:

(during a crash, the following happened:) Desprendimiento y alta incineración de los planos izquierdo y derecho.

Thank you for your help.

Discussion

philgoddard Jun 26, 2018:
I'm happy to concede that it may be wing, though it's hard to argue with Collins.

However, the easiest way to find out which is correct would be for the asker to tell us which airline this was, and where and when the accident happened.
Helena Chavarria Jun 26, 2018:
The link I posted doesn't go the right page of the glossary, which should be page 231.

The entries are 'left wing. Ala izquierda, plano izquierdo' and 'left wing heavy. Pesado del plano izquierdo'.

Wing can be translated as 'plano' (technical field); other than that it is known as 'ala'. Biplano:. Dual wing aircraft
Peer comment(s):

agree Jennifer Levey : If it didn't have "planes" it wouldn't be a (winged) "aeroplane".

agree Jairo Payan : Sin duda, esa es la explicación, yo volé y era oficial de mantenimiento. Los técnicos le decimos "planos" un pasajero habla de "alas"
