Gimbal ring is given in some sources for 'prstena kardana' but this doesn't seem to cover the entire name of the object.

Explanation:
I think that the whole expression should have been "prstenasta bolcna kardana".
"Kardan" has parts called "U bolt", but it also has parts with the same function which are in the shape of a ring.
The function of both part types is to insure integrity of cardan joint - "zglob kardana".

disagree  V&M Stanković: nažalost, ne vidim kako se osnovno pitanje može protumačiti kao "prstenasta bolcna kardana", niti postoji "prstenasta bolcna”, a ni seger prsten/osigurač (tj. uskočnik) nikako nije isto što i bolcn(a)- sve skupa, šteta bi bilo da ovakav „prevod“ uđe u KOG
