Norwegian term or phrase: Japp
This is my family name. They travelled from Germany to USA before the year 1860. I see "Japp" in Norwegian websites and a candy bar. What does it mean in Norwegian? Tusen takk!(Thank you)
Michael A. Japp
English translation:Yuppie
Explanation:
It's a bit like a Mars bar - and quite good. The name has no other meaning. In daily speech, japp is the Norwegianised yap or yuppie - young, aspiring professional. The trade name has existed for generations before yuppies came along, and there has been no specific association between the two.

Japp

Explanation:
... means nothing, everyone would think of the candy bar, which is a copy of the Mars bar. That is a funny story by the way, apparently, the owner of the Mars bar donated the right to produce Mars bars in Norway under the name of Japp to Norw. chocolate giant Freia after the 2nd World War...

-> Litt småironisk ment. Men: De kjøpte Marabou før Krafts oppkjøp, og med en omsetning på 6 milliarder SEK selger de jo ganske mye sjokolade etter skandinaviske forhold. Og tenk, mye på grunn av Mars Ltd.s (?) etterkrigseufori!
