to go up to the duchan or to duchan or to go up and bless the congregation Explanation: This refers to a cohen. The cohanim bless the congregation from the duchan which is a platform in the synagogue usually positioned immediately before the ark. They cover themselves with the tallit, hold their hands in the prescribed way, turn around to face the congregation and recite the priestly blessing. The act of doing this is called going up to the duchan or duchanning. There is no English word for ducan that I am aware of. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 41 mins (2021-02-18 14:54:50 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Typo in the last line. The word ducan should say duchan. |
