Dear D., Yes, I had misunderstood you. I apologise. Thank you for your further explanation. Then I agree with you in that ‘πρωτοταγής’ is very probably unsuitable in this case, especially due to its likely etymology.

Dear Peter, I think you misunderstood me: "πρωτοταγής" is not a misspelling and it is indeed one possible translation of "primary", but it is not the correct term for this context. In other words, there is no such thing as "πρωτοταγής συσκευασία" in Greek. The source text should have been "πρωτογενής και δευτερογενής συσκευασία". Obviously, the person who wrote the text that Dylan is working on was actually translating an English document and chose the wrong terms to render the phrase "primary and secondary packaging".

Further to my discussion entry of 21:04 yesterday evening, I think that it may be conceivable that the etymology of the word ‘πρωτοταγής’could be derived from a combination of the words ‘πρώτος’ and ‘ταγός’ (αυτός που βρίσκεται στην ηγεσία).

Good evening, If πρωτοταγής is a misspelling of πρωτογενής as you claim, how do you explain the fact that the Magenta Biological & Medical Dictionary gives the meaning of πρωτοταγής to be primary and the same dictionary gives the meaning of πρωτοταγής δομή to be primary structure, and it gives meaning of δευτεροταγής δομή to be secondary structure? [Also, both Google and Bing translate confirm the meanings of πρωτοταγής to be primary and of δευτεροταγής to be secondary]. Many people are very quick to criticise the Magenta dictionaries, but I have frequently found that their dictionaries often give meanings for words that are not even included in the “better” dictionaries. So, are you suggesting that all three of these dictionaries are confusing πρωτοταγής with πρωτογενής?

We should point out that "πρωτοταγής" and "δευτεροταγής" are the wrong terms here (obviously a poor translation of "primary" and "secondary"). The correct terms would be "πρωτογενής" and "δευτερογενής".
