Le terme d'amortissement industriel (ou amortissement commercial et industriel) désigne généralement la déduction opérée sur les produits d'exploitation, par les entreprises relevant de l'impôt sur le revenu (bénéfices industriels et commerciaux) ou de l'impôt sur les sociétés, en vue de constater et de compenser la dépréciation que subissent avec le temps certaines immobilisations sujettes à dépérissement.
L'amortissement désigne également l'opération consistant à étaler sur un nombre réduit d'exercices,
certaines dépenses importantes dont le montant est provisoirement inscrit à l'actif du bilan sous un
poste d'actif (valeurs immobilisées) ne correspondant en fait à aucune valeur réelle. Tel est le cas de
la déduction échelonnée des frais d'établissement.
