sable Explanation: Nokia is an industrialized town of 27,000 inhabitants and home to well-known Finnish brands, most importantly Nokia, the mobile phone company. Nokia is a famous for its spa, factory shops, waterways, and events. Nokia also enjoys good road and air connections. The word "nokia" ia an archaic word for sable; reflecting the fact that Nokia was a central trading location where sable fur-pelts were the most valuable commodity. The Nokia name comes from the ancient soot marten, a small, black-furred predatory animal that lived on the banks of the Nokianvirta river. The old Finnish word ‘‘nois,’’ i.e. ‘‘nokia,’’ meant a *dark-furred sable, like the marten*. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 day 5 hrs 38 mins (2004-06-26 09:59:20 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Etusivu » Perinnettä ja historiaa Tietoja Nokian historiasta Mistä nimi Nokia? Sana nokia tulee FL Jouko Jaakkolan mukaan kantasanasta nois, noki. Sillä tarkoitettiin soopelia, ja soopelin hävittyä Suomesta sana tarkoitti muita tummia turkiseläimiä, esimerkiksi näätää. Myöhemmin nois yleistyi tarkoittamaan yleensä turkiksia. http://www.nokiankaupunki.fi/ Reference: http://www.free-definition.com/Nokia,-Finland.html nds2.ir.nokia.com/aboutnokia/downloads/ brochures/pdf/nokia_manor/NOKIA_MANOR.pdf |
