Medical - Medical: Pharmaceuticals
Finnish term or phrase: käyttökokemus
"Yli 10 miljoonaa potilasta käyttää X:ää ja käyttökokemusta on kertynyt 5 vuoden ajalta."

Such a banal phrase, but can't find a translation for it anywhere.

Cheers, Owen. I think you're right that there's no direct way of translating this and the sentence requires a bit of restructuring. I would have been tempted to embellish a little, as Hannele suggested, but you're quite right that we can't make any assumptions with medical language. Thanks everybody for the lively discussion on such a mundane phrase :)

experience with use

Explanation:
This sentence requires rephrasing to sound natural, the hardest part being that the second half of the sentence needs a subject.

Example sentence(s):
  • Xxx has now been in use for 5 years, and there are currently 10 million active prescriptions.
  • We now have 5 years of experience with the use of xxx.

experience and documented results

Explanation:
I'd say: Over 10m patients use x and we have now over 5 years' experience and documented results.

Jos he sanovat että heillä on käyttökokemus, niin sitten myös documented results... pelkkä kokemus tai tieto siitä että sitä on käytetty on tuskin riittävä myymään...mutta

käyttökokemus on vaan experience. Experience of use, ehkä.

disagree  Owen Witesman: This sentence could be used for an herbal supplement with no results. You're adding a scientific claim not made in the original. Same thing could be said of my adding the word "prescription"--the context would decide, but some restatement is necessary.

  -> Agree, we do not have the context! Mutta kysymys kaiketi on mihin käyttökokemus viittaa... onkai se enemmän kuin käyttö, siis myös kokemukset, ja jos he näihin kokemeuksiin viittaavat, niin kai ne on myös dokumentoitu? Tulos voi olla mitä hyvänsä...

disagree  Setti Mulari: Assumption of documentation. It's a sensible assumption, but still an assumption.

maybe ...Over 10 million patients uses X and the user experience has been accumulated for a five-year period. ?

Example sentence(s):
  • User experience has become a popular term in research and industry. There has been a great attempt to study and design user experiences.
  • User experience encompasses all aspects of the end-user's interaction with the company, its services, and its products.

neutral  Owen Witesman: Ok if this is a medical device, possibly very inappropriate if it's a drug. Bad to call patients using a drug "users".

  -> I get your point Owen however, a term that is widely used in research including medicine. In the end are they not .... User (drug), one who uses drugs for medical or recreational purposes. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/4059699

neutral  Setti Mulari: UX was my first thought when I saw the e-mail about this question, but then again I assumed this was an IT question. :) As this is not software or a mobile phone or something, I think Owen got this right.
