English term or phrase: pipes of box

"Ovid, Metamorphoses 4. 25 ff :
"You [Dionysos] drive your pair of lynxes with bright coloured reigns. Bacchae and Satyri (Satyrs) are your followers, and that old drunkard [Seilenos (Silenus)] whose stout staff supports his tottering steps... Wherever your course leads you, young men's shouts and women's cries echo afar with noise of tambourines and clashing bronze and long-bored pipes of box."

The musical instruments used by shepherds were at first made of oat and wheat straw, then of reeds and hollow pipes of box; afterwards , of the leg bones of cranes , horns of animals, metals , etc.
