Ein Beispiel:Ein Unternehmen bilanziert in Euro, ist aber auch im Dollarraum tätig. Also hat es auch Forderungen in Dollar. Diese werden zum Währungskurs am Bilanzstichtag in Euro umgerechnet und gehen mit diesem Wertansatz in den Forderungsbestand ein. Wenn nun der Dollar gegenüber dem Euro an Wert verliert, stimmt der Wertansatz der Forderungen in Dollar nicht mehr. Um dagegen gewappnet zu sein, wird eine Rücklage gebildet (die auf der Passivseite stehen müsste).

Was für den Forderungsbestand gilt, gilt analog auch für das Anlage- und das Umlaufvermögen.

Es handelt sich also um eine Rücklage zum Auffangen von Währungskursschwankungen.
