Watertight was given as an answer in one of two other identical postings of the same question. It's also listed as a translation in ordinary Fr-En dictionaries and imo, it makes the most sense in the context.

I agree with Phil and Suzie, watertight rather than waterproof when talking about plugs and gaskets, which seems to be the case here.

I'm not clear what the patent is for, but if the water is inside whatever it is, surely it's watertight, not waterproof.

It may be that the joint does let water vapour pass through it hence the extra detail which seems superfluous in English.
