English term or phrase: LEANING BOARDS
Bonjour,

LEANING BOARDS

Pour un devoir, dans le cadre de ma formation, je doit traduire une brochure sur l'agencement d'un atelier de menuisier. Il s'agit d'une plaquette illustrée, sans autres d'explication concernant le "leaning board".

Texte intégral :
Leaning board:
Clear an area for leaning boards up against the wall (make sure they are stable).

De quoi s'agit-il exactement ?
Quelle est sa fonction et son nom en français ?

Je vous remercie,
Géraldine

French translation:pour (y) appuyer des planches
Explanation:
La question devrait être for leaning.

for leaning = in order to be able to lean/so as to lean

to lean (against) = appuyer qchose (contre...)

Clear an area for leaning boards up against the wall

>

Dégager un espace pour y appuyer des planches debout/verticalement contre le mur

Puisqu'il s'agit de l'agencement d'un atelier, on pourrait aller jusqu'à : « ...pour pouvoir y appuyer...»

«... il s'agit d'une traduction précise et je ne pense pas que "leaning board" puisse être traduit par la traduction littérale de leaning + board. »

Je comprends la structure for... + -ing comme signifiant « afin de... » (etc.). Si on retient votre interprétation, la syntaxe de la phrase serait fautive ; il manquerait un verbe : /Clear an area/ for/ leaning boards/ to stand??[ou autre verbe ?] /up against the wall.

Explanation:
Voici la définition du terme anglais:

"leaning-board
Noun

(plural leaning boards)

An item of furniture which is comparable in structure to a flat bench but positioned at a vertical diagonal. Often with attached arm rests. Used primarily in movie making and popularized in the early era of Hollywood; the purpose was for actresses in elaborate costumes, hair and makeup to be able to rest their bodies (even sleep) without becoming disheveled, or in situations when their costume prohibited sitting down."

Asker: Bonjour, il s'agit d'une traduction précise et je ne pense pas que "leaning board" puisse être traduit par la traduction littérale de leaning + board. Mais qu'il y a effectivement un nom approprié pour les menuisier. Je vous remercie de votre réponse.
