Je traduis un relevé de notes d'une université anglaise, voici ce qui apparaît avant les notes :
"Subject: BA/BSc Hons International Relations / Sociology

Pouvez-vous me confirmer que "Hons" et "with honours" renvoient au fait que la licence est spécialisée (en opposition à "general degree") et non pas à l'obtention d'une mention ? Je suppose en effet que si l'on faisait référence à une mention (first, second, third class), elle apparaîtrait dans la section "classification (of honours)" qui est restée vide...

Je pense aussi que "Hons" et "honours" font référence ici aux matières étudiées / à la spécialisation de la licence, et non à une mention, qui serait logiquement définie dans la rubrique "classisfication" (first/second/third class).
(voir le lien ci-joint -> question qu'un étudiant pose à l'université de Liverpool : "If I were to study two subjects at 50:50 under Honours Select what would be written on my degree certificate?" ; réponse de l'université : "Your degree certificate will say (for example) BA (Hons) History and Sociology".)

Explanation:
I would'nt translate the term because it doesn't have an equivalent in French and besides it is typically English. You are right to think "Hons" and with honours refer to the same concept. With honours here isn't "mention" but a distinguished degree opposing a general one.

BA Hons (équivalent diplôme bac +4)


Explanation:
Il me semble que le Bachelor of Arts est l'équivalent d'une licence (en France) et le BA Hons ajoute 1 année de formation universitaire spécialisée. Donc ça serait l'équivalent d'un Master 1 (ou Maîtrise, anciennement).
C'est vrai que dans l'exemple de la Grande Bretagne (lien ci-dessous), apparemment aussi bien le BA que le BA Hons se font en 3 ans, mais le Hons a un programme beaucoup plus chargé.

C'est en effet la notion de "mention".
On peut être crédité d'une licence avec mention première classe, ou autre :
First-Class Honours (70% and above): a first class degree, usually referred to as a ‘first’ or 1st, is the highest honours degree you can achieve
Upper Second-Class Honours (60-70%): there are two levels of second class degree. An upper second class, known as a 2:1 or two-one, is the higher of the two levels
Lower Second-Class Honours (50-60%): a 2.2 or two-two is the lower level of the second class degree
Third-Class Honours (40-50%): known as a ‘third’ or 3rd, this degree is the lowest honours degree achievable
Ordinary Degree if an honours student fails to achieve a third class by a small margin, they will be awarded an ordinary degree (without honours).

Asker: Merci pour votre message. Cela semble logique en effet. J'allais vers l'idée de spécialisation car, comme je le disais, le type de mention n'est pas spécifié sur mon document (pas de first, second ou third class donc, seulement "with honours").
