Le taux de pénétration est un indicateur de gestion commerciale qui traduit la proportion de consommateurs ayant acheté le produit pour une période et un marché donnés. Le taux de pénétration exprimé en pourcentage se calcule donc par la formule : (nombre de clients obtenus / clients potentiels de la zone) X 100.

Si un marché géographique est composé de 2 millions de consommateurs (ou clients potentiels) et qu'une entreprise y compte 500 000 clients alors son taux de pénétration est de 25%. Le calcul du taux de pénétration est alors de (500 000 / 2 000 000) X 100 = 25%.
