pain during transport Explanation: Example: Prospective, cohort study of trauma resuscitation patients transported by ambulance to a major trauma centre. Patients with haemodynamic instability (SBP < 90, HR > 120) or GCS < 14 on arrival were excluded. Momentary pain scores were measured on an 11-point verbal numerical rating scale by paramedics during prehospital management. Patients were evaluated within 48 h of injury on the recall of their initial pain, pain during transport, and lowest pain score achieved by prehospital analgesia. Spearman's rank correlation and Bland–Altman tests were used to compare ambulance and hospital data. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S00201... -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 14 mins (2020-10-18 14:12:29 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Providing appropriate analgesia to patients with pain is important for patient comfort in transport especially in patients suffering trauma or who are intubated. The goal is that patients experience minimal pain during transport. https://www.ornge.ca/Media/Ornge/Documents/Publications/Qual... -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 17 mins (2020-10-18 14:15:55 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- HSN CPC has recently received approval from the Emergency Health Regulatory and Accountability Branch to move forward with a patellar reduction study. Patellar dislocation is an infrequent occurrence, however the treatment of this painful injury is quite simple and quick therefore decreasing the patients pain during transport. https://www.hsnsudbury.ca/portalen/Portals/23/18-08_Patellar... -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 hr (2020-10-18 14:58:55 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- 'vervoerspijn' is often used in connection with peritoneal irritation, which can occur in appendicitis for instance. Depending on the exact context, you may also consider a less literal translation: pain on movement Irritation of the peritoneum (inside lining of the abdominal wall) can lead to increased pain on movement, or jolting, for example going over speed bumps. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Appendicitis Interesting: Speed bumps and appendicitis The presence of pain while travelling over speed bumps has been found to be associated with an increased likelihood of acute appendicitis. Why is the research needed? Diagnosing appendicitis can be challenging, particularly in the early stages of the condition. Several different tests exist, but appendicitis can sometimes be easily missed and can only be properly confirmed once the appendix has been removed. It is important not to miss it, but it’s also important to make sure a patient does not have a diagnosis of appendicitis, since between 5–42% of patients who have their appendix removed do not have appendicitis. Sometimes patients report a worsening of their pain when they travel over speed bumps, and some doctors routinely ask about this as part of their initial conversation with the patient. Researchers at the University of Oxford and Stoke Mandeville Hospital carried out a study to find out whether there is any evidence to support the use of speed bumps as a tool to diagnose acute appendicitis. file:///C:/Users/bevan/Downloads/Speed%20bump%20research%20summary.pdf |
