Catalan term

vi brandit

Non-PRO Catalan to English Other Food & Drink etymology, distillation
Supposed to mean something like 'stormy wine' and is referred to as a possible basis of the word 'brandy', but I want to check.
Thanks

brandied/fortified

"Brandied" in English usually refers to foodstuffs that have had brandy added, or else some kind of punch mixed with brandy. It seems odd to do so with wine, but I suppose it's possible. More context needed. What exactly are they doing with the wine and the brandy? If they are simply raising the alcohol and sugar content, perhaps they simply mean fortified wine, but I believe that would be "vi generĂ³s". Hope this helps.
Note from asker:
Hi Gary, Thanks a lot for your input. The author of the text is suggesting that people of Catalonia consider that brandy comes originally from Catalonia and that the word 'brandy' is based on the expression 'vi brandit', which the author says means 'stormy wine'. Your answer does make some kind of sense in that context, but the author is not referring to fortified wine as such.
