In my 50s too... Mar 5, 2021

Thorsten Hendriks wrote:

Reading through all the post it looks like I am an odd one..... my main genre is heavy metal but I will also stray towards classical, eurobeat, trance and other genres.

Considering I am in my 50s, over the past few years I went to concerts of Slipknot, Metallica, Rammstein, Avenged Sevenfold, Disturbed, Nightwish, Sumo Cyco, and others. Since last year a great fan of Five Finger Death Punch and Lacuna Coil.

This is my playlist of nearly 1000 tracks, give it a go if you dare: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6e4DGUjm9AVc9OiDM1mzqC?si=lMtJrEYyQtmf6JJ8Ye6gCQ

and I listen to a lot of metal too, but I usually don't mention it, 'cause people stare at me with a blank face...

You ran across Jim Kerr and Patsy Kensit and he was the one you thought about talking to?🙈😂

Clearly not, Tom, or we wouldn’t be here. Why are you here?

I'm here to tell you, Rude Boy, that your musical tastes are of no interest to me, just as mine are of no interest to you. And I think the same applies to every other post in this thread. Now go away.

I try to listen to all suggestions. I have listened to yours. I found them interesting although I don't listen to jazz a lot. John Coltrane was a master musician and so was Bill Evans. No doubt. I appreciate the posting. The jazz posted here inspired me to visit music in a similar vein that I like and posted earlier (Weather Report's Birdland, Herbie Hancock's Chameleon, and a cover version of Stevie Wonder's "Boogie On Reggae Woman" by "Dogs in a Pile"). I think there are some vibes that are crossing here.

Nothing wrong with not "agreeing" or not liking it; it's all good. As I said before, this thread helps me broaden my musical horizons more and anything that is suggested here is greatly appreciated. But anyone can take it or leave it, that's fine. But I like the friendly exchange through our musical tastes the most. That includes friendly banter.

Never heard of Alabama 3 before. Though having Googled them, I found out that they did the theme song to one of my favorite TV shows. Very enjoyable stuff indeed. I'll check them out further.
This band used to be considered as 'metal'. From the good old 'anti globalization' days (I wonder what happened to that lot). They always had sweet bass lines...

Listened to a few of their songs now.
This one quite moving: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9_DtBxTK3Q
Side note, quite interesting, according to wikipedia: The band took its name from a line in the Bruce Springsteen song, "Backstreets" - "Slow dancin' in the dark on the beach at Stockton's Wing..."
It makes sense:

A band I saw in a tiny venue here about 10 years ago before they 'made it', and again about 3 years ago.
It's amazing the overwhelming sound they create with only 3 members (IMHO):

djent stuff Mar 8, 2021

¿Any metal fans around here?
I just found a djent-techno band called "Every Hour Kills". Their song Anthelion has been "my get out of bed" tune for the last couple of weeks. It's a good way to start the day strong.

Classic rock: Elton John: "Rock of the Westies" full album (1975); very underrated IMO: takes me back to my early high school days) Favorite Tracks:
"Street Kids" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4A7tu92g0LE
"Billy Bones and the White Bird" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f-mQj_yTS6w&list=RDf-mQj_yTS6w&start_radio=1

Classic and leaning towards progressive: Split Enz: "Time and Tide" full album (1982) Great tracks:

"Take a Walk" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cCe7IWKq_NI

and the last three tracks as one: "Haul Away," "Log Cabin Fever," "Make Sense of It"

Progressive (light): Fish: "Waverley Steps (End of the Line)" - song from his latest album "Weltschmerz" (2020)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0gHmX66gq3M

Progressive (light): Huis (Canadian band): "Nor on Earth (song)" - song from their album "Neither in Heaven" (2016)

Progressive (heavier, instrumental): Spock's Beard: "Skeletons at the Feast" (song) from their album "Spock's Beard" (2006)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9-lI7Nppz0

Pretty heavy: Killing Joke: "I am the Virus (Lyric Video)" - song - and "Autonomous Zone" - song - both from their album "Pylon" (2015)

Another interesting rawer version of "I am the Virus" IMO: search for Killing Joke - "I Am The Virus (Marc Riley Session 2/11/16)"

Rag week Mar 8, 2021

I saw this wacky guy in concert during a university rag week in Dublin around 1982, a gig I'll never forget. This unfortunately was not on the setlist, but always puts a smile on my face:
