Coffee & tea Feb 12, 2006

While the average daily number of coffee could be 5 or more, number of cups of tea may exceed 25, sometimes. Actually I wonder if there is anybody among you, by virtue of his/her field of specialization, who knows the maximum tolerable limit of cups of coffee & tea for a professional translator for healthier future?.

Where's the option for 10+ or 15+???
OK, OK, I *try* to stick to decaf after the first few 'real' ones..... but there's only so much of that one can take! (sob)

I thought it was only me!

Interesting I'm living in a house where none can smile before his/her morning cup of coffee and most of the people I know around me are the same! And it's not even the usual light coffee; it's Turkish coffee!

Nice to know that I'm not alone here

Fuel... Feb 12, 2006

It's the fuel that keeps my translations running. And myself, of course. Although... after 15+ over a few decades it's only 10+ these days.
Perhaps I'm getting old

I don't drink tea or coffee but... Feb 12, 2006

I do drink "mate" which contains caffeine but I think not as much as coffee or even tea. On average, I drink 3 "rounds" of mate on my own when I'm working (plus an occasional social round). If I'm not working I usually have mate twice a day, once on my own and once with family or friends.

I also found these other interesting links:

and this one with pictures and a more "cultural approach to mate. One comment though, it's not true that we in Argentina sweeten our mate, in fact, about 90% of mate drinkers I know *don't* use any sugar (sacrilege!)

Any other mate drinkers around??

Some days ago we created a short form for the word TRANSLATOR on the Polish forum. It was like the first letters of: Coffee, Computer and Seven Dictionaries

Hola Maria Fernanda

Thanks for that link. I was intrigued by "mate" after seeing Historias Minimas, I'll check out what it's all about!

Same here, my husband practically lives on coffee. I always start my day with a nice big pot of rooibos tea (which doesn't contain any caffeine), works perfectly for me.

I used to drink 7-10 a day when I was in college because I liked it and because I was addicted. One day coffee didn't taste the same anymore and stopped drinking it. This happened about 3 years ago. It was awful because I was always sleepy and had to re-start drinking coffee. However, I usually put some drops of milk in it, since I don't like the flavour anymore.

Tea, on the other hand, doesn't have the same effect on me as coffee does.

TEAtotaller :] Feb 12, 2006

Well, I don't drink coffee, it tastes awful and I've never forced myself to drink something I don't like, including alcohol :] But I do drink a lot of tea... usually in my favorite gigantic mug - it is so big that I can't hold it with one hand when it's full :] But I’m not addicted, I can do without tea.

Total addiction Feb 12, 2006

I feel like an ethereal being in the morning until I get my first dose of coffee and smoke, and if I can't get any coffee for some reason, I can't concentrate well, have a headache, and feel on the edge! So, lack of it is quite unhealthy, too! However, any coffee I get in the rest of the day is more like a distraction from work, just because I don't seem to find any better excuse to leave my desk when I feel bored. However, any coffee I get in the rest of the day is more like a distraction from work, just because I don't seem to find any better excuse to leave my desk when I feel bored. When the coffee is a must is early morning only, and the total amount of coffee I get throughout the day is 4-5 cups, I guess.

Ah, I drink Turkish coffee only when I want to give myself a treat with coffee, other than the medical reasons just listed above And, tortuga langua, I wonder what variety of Turkish coffee you get in 3-4 big cups. It sounds like drinking 3-4 beer mugs of tequila
