This comes from the University of Indiana The line between informatics and computer science can seem blurred at times. It’s a little like the difference between being able to drive or even work on a car versus being able to build one. If you are passionate about how technology can fuel scientific, cultural, and artistic discovery—but you also want to be able to build the tools to do it—the computer science cognate will give you the opportunity to gain a deeper technical understanding of fundamental aspects of computer science, including network design, cybersecurity, and data and search.

Terminology In the US, the terms "information technology" and "computer science" are most widely used. However, "informatics" is used quite frequently, too. I am not sure why both "informatyka" and "technologia informacyjna" are used here. I have seen this distinction, though, on new Polish high school diplomas.

This comes from a discussion on an IT forum:
Informatics is a broad academic field consisting of computer science,information science and information technology together with a cognate, that is a secondary field of study in which informatics is applied such as biology,chemistry and physics.
