Discussion

Thanks, but.. Keshabji, thanks for your efforts but don't agree with comparison made between things that were invented by western scientists and those already known to everyone. We don't have terms for car, motor cycle, scooter, hydrogen, etc. because they were not known to us before being invented. So, the inventors gave them name and they became popular by the names given. Also, we can certainly find terms in our languages for many words for which there are no appropriate options in dictionaries. For example 'gestation period' of a project. I do not know of any Eng-Hindi dictionary that gives the exact Hindi word in this sense. We have to research sometimes. Again, everyone knows about amniotic fluid but not by the name of उल्बीय तरल or ऐम्निओटिक तरल. Probably, a research by native translators could help and that was my objective of posting this term under Kudoz. I'd like to give it some more time.

Simpler term. Isn't a difficult term in Hindi? Because the instructions are meant for common people. I am a translator for 11 years and couldn't know what उल्बीय तरल meant if I came across the instructions. So it cannot be expected that a common man understands it whereas most people know about this fluid, so may be an easier term in Hindi could be found.

Yes, I am agree with you because I also didn't know it before, I have to find it. It is a technical term And all technical terms is translated more technically. Everybody knows ' Hydrogen', but 'उदजन' is not so common. We can easily understand carbon dioxide as कार्बन डाइऑक्साइड but how many knows it's also 'प्रांगार द्विजारेय'?

and as we knew these terms in English at first, it is more comfortable to retain it in English. So I made two options : उल्बीय तरल/ ऐम्निओटिक तरल . So you can easily chose the second :ऐम्निओटिक तरल .

However, I got the term from www.shabdkosh.com.

agree Rajan Chopra : This is the fluid surrounding the fetus in the uterus which protects it during pregnancy and labour. It contains substances and cells from the baby, which can be removed by amniocentesis and examined

प्रसूति तरल, प्रसव तरल

It will be an easily understandable and explanatory term for ordinary people who are not technical.
