English term

fast foods

English to Hindi Other Food & Drink
Try not to add excess salt at the table. A little salt in cooking, however, is acceptable. Avoid taking FAST FOODS.

I think it means Burgers, Patties, Hotdogs and Chowmein etc. Could you suggest a befitting alternative for the same.

Thanks in advance.

FAST FOODS

I am of the view that FAST FOODS is a new concept which has come to India not long ago.Our languages cannot have words for a foreign concepts. It is better to explain it once and use it in its original form. Also, it is necessary to keep the target readership in mind.It is quite likely that they are young and may understand the original term better. If the purpose of translation is to convey a message, I don't think we should be fussy about it; unless,of course, it is a mind game.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thanks to all of you for your suggestions. As it is not perhaps possible to convey the real sense, therefore, I think that it would be better to transliterate the same."

agree Dipak (X) : I think your answer is closer to the reality. But do we not eat 'banaa-banaayaa khaana at home prepared by mother or wife.?I would suggest that it should be used as it is as a proper name of a new concept.
