Dutch term

een klankbeeld in vogelvlucht

Dutch to English Art/Literary Music
A set of CDs to commemorate 30 years of the North Sea Jazz Festival, with tracks by various artists who performed there. New era dawning, as the venue has moved from The Hague to Ahoy'. This text is for the accompanying notes.

Daarom vindt Radio Nederland Wereldomroep het passend om dit moment te markeren met deze 4-cd box, een klankbeeld in vogelvlucht van dertig jaar North Sea-jazz.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: ""A nostalgic journey through thirty years...." sounds good. "A look back on" works for me as well. Tough call. Thanks, everyone!"

a bird's eye view of (the sounds of) thirty year's North Sea jazz

A bird's eye view of (the sounds of) thirty years (of) North Sea jazz
Peer comment(s):

agree Suzan Hamer : Aw, I was going to say that; you beat me to it. I was trying to think of an idiom related to sound or hearing rather than sight instead of "bird's eye view."

Sorry and thanks! :-)
agree Siobhan Schoonhoff-Reilly : beat me to it also.

a look (and listen) back on 30 years of North Sea Jazz

not overly literal, but 4 CD's is a lot of music and to me, a bird's eye view seems more superficial. that is just my own opinon-1 question, 3 translators, 5 different ideas.....
Peer comment(s):

neutral Suzan Hamer : My US dictionary:"seen at a glance, & from above; also cursory" (bird's I view isn't even in my UK dictionary). Indeed, 1 synonym for cursory is brief;4 CDs is anything but brief, but could B considered a "brief" summary relative to 30 yrs of music.

a look back is longer than just a look.
agree Tina Vonhof (X) : a look-and-listen is a well-known expression (delete 'back') - you want to keep the 'sound' in there and 'bird's eye view' does not.
